I am opening this thread as a separate topic for the purpose of getting feedback. As mentioned in other threads, the CIC is working on proposals to bring our town an improved web site. The current town web site is a good one and will provide a nice foundation for us to work on.
We have been brainstorming and coming up with our own ideas, We have looked at other towns and viewed what they have done.
What ever we do, the new site will likely not all be up in one shot. It will likely be a work in progress. We have to start with a simple template and structure that will allow ease of use and changes when needed.
We have two big goals in mind, to provide a good source of info for our town residents, which our current site does, and also to make it a better and positive advertisement about our town.
With the above in mind, what do you, readers, want to see? Many of the ideas that have been mentioned on this site are on the table, but we on the CIC are always open to suggestions.

I would like to see a "Virtual Home Tour", whereby willing property owners, invited by the town to participate, submit a series of photos of their unique or historically significant homes, along with a few paragraphs describing what is shown in the pictures.
This could become a precursor for an actual home tour, organized later, which could be used to raise funds to help pay for the website.

Here's another idea: Have a page that updates frequently and links to all news stories on the web pertaining to positive news in the boro.

Apparently, it goes back to 2007 for February and March, but the rest of the months are all 2008!!! See that...make a request, have your problem fixed!!! Now that's efficient governing!!!

Andrew,
It will be taken care of. No need to be sarcastic, OK?

Ka19,
The virtual tour concept is good. It fits into one of our goals to have the web site play a more prominent role in advertising our town in a positive way.
Andrew,
The spirit of your concerns are something else we are hoping to achieve. Right now the current site is static, it stays the same except for a little change once in a great while.
One of our desired goals is make it a bit more of a living web site. So much information comes out through out the year and should be put on the site. ( Ka19 touched on this too)
You will both be happy to know that the new site should cost our town zero dollars and has a great many features which will make use and updating much easier.
Nothing is set in stone, and we are working toward a number of goals. Keep the ideas coming.

Freehold boro neighbor of the month! Honoree is awarded gift certificate to a local restaurant. That is a killer idea, but Me thinks the new Community Pride committee could lead the way on this. Of course, the winner could be announced on the borough web site.

Provide an e-mail link to elected members of council so that residents may contact them with concerns, issues, or praise as matters arise. Provide streaming video of Council Meetings and planning meetings. (This can be done after the meetings for people who could not attend). This option is very popular in some towns and counties. It is often provided with a link to the official agenda and any action items taken by the governing body. see example: arlington.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2Have a "Freehold History" Corner with submissions about the History of Freehold. Have links to Freehold Organizations -- charitable, social, community, etc. (Spotlight an organization each month)

For those of you who replied to this thread, good job and thank you. I know that a couple of you repeated yourselves from another thread and that is appreciated. I will take all of the suggestions to the table for review.
