Our School District is going to hold another "Town Hall" meeting in order to meet our new state representatives, Senator Beck, Assemblywoman Cassagrande, and Assemblyman O'Scanlon.
The meeting is scheduled for February 28th at 7pm at the Park Ave Elementary School.
That's right, all three of our newly elected state officials have agreed to come back to the Boro to meet up with us again!!
An exact format for the meeting has not yet been decided, but it is a great opportunity for the members of our community to come out again and meet our new representatives in Trenton.
Let's be sure to keep Freehold Boro fresh in their minds by showing them, once again, the passion that our town has for our children and our schools.

Thank you, Andrew, for the follow up on this event. I have added it to the calendar so that readers will be reminded when the event nears.
I ask that all participants and readers to remember the calender feature of this site. I am more than happy to add anything that is related to our town. This is free advertising for any event that Freehold Residents might be interested in. Often the calendar fearture is backed up with a description of the event. Just click on the event and any added text will appear.
Also, I am more than happy to take requests for the news fader. This is a great feature to employ as an event nears.
It does not matter what the events are, fund raisers, meetings, festivals, they are all welcome here. It is also advisable that events added to the calender be backed up with posts on the main pages.

www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080208/GETPUBLISHED/802080494/-1/LOCAL01appsNews Release From the Freehold Borough Board of Education For immediate release Contact: Elizabeth O’Connell, Superintendent of Schools Phone: 732-761-2102 Email: LizO@freeholdboro.k12.nj.us Public invited to meet elected officials School board hosts second annual town meeting February 8, 2008 – The Freehold Borough Board of Education invites borough residents to meet their elected officials from the 12th district at a public meeting at the Park Avenue School on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. State Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon Jr., Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande, and Executive County Superintendent of Schools Carol K. Morris will attend this event and answer the residents’ questions about the proposed toll hikes, the New Jersey budget and the new school funding formula. Free child care will be provided. The Park Avenue School is located at 280 Park Avenue. The event will be held in the school’s cafetorium. Last year the board of education held a public forum to discuss school funding and had a standing room only crowd. As a result of last year’s meeting, several financial changes have taken place in the school district that directly benefit the students. The board of education wants to continue hosting events similar to these to allow residents to meet their elected officials, have the questions answered and their ideas heard. Mrs. Elizabeth O’Connell, superintendent of schools says, “History has shown that our residents are eager to learn about the issues that affect them and their children and they become active in affecting positive change. Having the residents involved creates a more effective learning environment for our students.” ~end~

Last night it was great to have the Trenton gang here in Freehold Borough. Through out the night they made mention of their continued concern for Freehold Borough and they talked as if the the yellow shirts from last year really did leave an impression. At least Beck remembered last March 20 very well and as a result they have not forgotten us.
What is a shame is that so few of us from Freehold borough showed up. Not including the council, the BOE and a couple of other foo foo's who sat in the reserved section, we only had about fifty people show. That is a very far cry from the hundreds who packed the room last March.
I spoke with a number of people, all of whom were very surprised at how rotten the turn out was. I do not believe that anybody thought that we would see the same numbers as last March, but none of us expected such a low turn out.
Out of those who did show, there were many recognizable faces. These are the people who are active in this town and care about this town. These are the ones who make this town a better place by contributing their time and energy because they care about this town. It was good to see ALL of you.
And of course, a special thanks and recognition to the school band. It is always great to hear kids playing music.

An observation about attendance....
....is there is sooo much interest with the ACTUAL school budget meeting planed for this Monday March 3rd....that working parents can not keep adjusting their schedules and had to make tough decisions about what night to stay out late with the kids (for those that might not have a baby sitter).
Do not be surprise when there will be a greater turn out this Monday's BOE March 3rd.
No Monday morning Q-backing, but maybe next year we can plan the timing of our 3rd Annual Town Hall Meeting meeting differently.
I do praise our school board for creating ongoing community awareness, and putting in the time and effort for sponsoring this event, I APPRECIATED IT!!!
There were important issues discussed about funding, regionalization options, shared services, the new funding formula, keeping taxes down, getting this district to Thorough and Efficient Adequacy levels etc....
Another message heard the growing Bi-Parisian approach to keeping schooling well funded, maintaining (for the time being) education padded from the current round of state cutbacks in Trenton .
SO for now, schools and school districts should apply prudent financial caution and learn from the example of Freehold Boro schools, the lesson on how to do a lot more with a lot less!
Our school board was wonderful for thanking Senator Beck for all her help, and her continued support. Though our Boro council was respectful with being in attendance, it would have been nice to see a token Representative get up and say a few words of appreciation last night too!
