According to the clerk's website, Robert and Barbara Crawford (with a mailing address in Freehold) bought property in Howell in December 2005.
An R.J. and Barbara A. Crawford are still listed as property owners at the property in Freehold. Perhaps they did not sell yet, or the records have not yet been updated, or they never actually moved yet. You cannot tell from the records if they actually occupy the property. But the Freehold records do state that the mailing address is the Freehold property and not someplace else.
As for the rest of the story, I like the silent, conspiratorial implication that Geo became an attack dog for mayor and couoncil knowing that he was on the short list.

This is what I am wondering When did Former Councilman Crawford sell his house, when did he take up residency in Howell. I heard stories about his moving out of the Borough going back to last June of 07? The Mayor Wilson was interviewing potential council appointmentees early summer 07. During the summer months, regular council meetings had been canceled in July and august and once in October. Plus Mr Crawford had missed a few meeting prior to his post Nov 4th resignation. The APP posting about Mayor Lucas make me wonder when did Crawford move, if knowledge of his residency change had been suppressed, is this all another rotten malcontent story that will go nowhere. My personal opinion is that you should do your fact checking before "wondering" aloud on a website. Absent some compelling proof that Mr. Crawford was engaged in some wrongdoing, this is nothing more than scurrilous speculation that pointlessly damages a man who served the community for decades. This post does not violate our rules, but a post like this provides misguided critics of the site a legitimate basis for attack. I think one needs a lot more before posting random thoughts with these implications. |

I'm not too sure it really damages the man's reputation too much. I mean, Causal Holly has been claiming that the man has been dead for years!!!

So what are we calling this? Crawfordgate? Sound like a "vast right-wing conspiracy" to me. Sounds more left wing, but eitherway, it is a pig wing consiracy and now i know why ham is unkosher.  Anyone want a Bologna their Ham  |

A topic like this one is tough for a forum like this. Rich rightfully pointed out the need for facts as well as attempting to not drag someone's name through the mud for the wrong reasons.
In all likelihood, we will not see answers or even very much discussion on what Jeff was "wondering." There is little wrong with that, just as there is nothing wrong with Jeff asking a simple question.
From my position, this is an example of reminding people that we are mature adults. Readers will make up their own minds on any give subject. A forum like this is going to be loaded with opinion and perspective. Participants are going to opine based on the information they have. There is nothing wrong with that.
I have flat out mentioned in the papers that at times we do get some bad info on this site. It happens. We try to correct and keep things honest, but no person is perfect.
On the other hand, we have had things hit this site, and no where else, that were absolutely correct. The people who could answer these questions will not, so they will remain just that, questions.
Crawford's reputation is one that will stand on his service and achievements. He served our town well and like the other elected leaders, with his heart and passion for this town. he will be judged by his actions on the council as well as the legacy he left behind which is the state of affairs of our town. Again, readers can make up their own minds either way.
Readers, I remind you, these types of posts come with an open forum. Make up your minds. Above all, if you do not like the way things are posted or what is posted, you can change that simply by changing topic and just participating in general. Bring your own voice here if you really want a different site.
Rich mentioned the detractors of this site. They are a good example of people who are not helping, just whining. If the detractors are so right, where are they? Why so silent? Could they not provide the truth? ( not just on this topic) Instead, they ran.
