I'm not going to allege any funny business, but it is odd that the meeting on Monday was canceled and then, a few days late, a meeting is scheduled for 2 nights after Christmas.
Is there something going on? or is it just clearing up some year end business before the new session?
Any clues?
well, Brian, you may get to say whatever it was that you thought you were going to say a few days ago.

On a more serious note, I think the best bet is that we will see who the new appointee will be to the council. It makes sense that the pick will be made befoe the re-org meeting so that all three can be sworn in together.
Just a guess.

I'm not sure what happened at the last meeting...
But Crawford's resignation needs to be formally accepted by the mayor and council before he can actually resign mid-term. Then, of course, the mayor and council will probably want to appoint someone before the organizational meeting as I do not think that that meeting can conduct regular business.
So, I think, Holly may be onto something.
I hope Casual enters the room mid-meeting wearing a mask only to be unveiled when the appointment is actually made.

I have it on good word that the New Hand Picked Appointee will be announced. This may not be a big Surprise for some. Casuals true identity will be revealed, at which time the mayor will perform the last wedding of the year as Casual Marries the now pregnant Borough office Mole, and is announced that the father to be will be the Newest Council Appointee. More unexpected details that will shock this community and state will follow...... This is not really a big suprise. I expect he will appoint someone he knows and trusts. I think it is pretty obvious who that is likely going to be at this point.

I have that bet. The Mayor might do a FF flunkie -- but he is not putting frank on there -- no chance. zip, nada, zero.
After you lose -- I'll cash in with a cup of joe at Sweet Lews. Maybe Keith will let me work the grill just to see if I still have it.
No -- Geo is your new rep.

Rich...any truth to the rumor that the Mayor made a long distance call to a Virginia town, trying to summon back one of Freehold Boro's favorite sons to serve on the town council?? Of course...this is just a rumor...and one which I just started...just now...

If he did -- it must have been to my best friend growing up, a Freehold boy and Springsteen relative living in the Commonwealth.
(Interestingly, I was admitted to Rutgers and Seton Hall Law, but it was this friend who told me about George Mason and invited me down to visit. If not for that -- I might still be up there in Freehold, under the oppressive thumb of the man.) Actually -- this is a true story too -- The last day I received mail at my house in Freehold, the day the moving truck came to take me away -- I received a scholarship offer from Seton Hall law School. Had it arrived 4 weeks earlier -- before I sold my house -- I might still be there.
Now -- if the Mayor needs me -- I will answer the call. (I can stay with my sister and brother-in-law, and go to Council meetings twice a month.) It would be my pleasure.
And, I would even be willing to declare myself an independent.

This town is solid Dem and it is foolish for you or the GOP to think otherwise.

If the Borough appointed Vincente Fox to the Council seat -- and the GOP ran Mother Theresa in 2008, Mother Teresa would be doing the long walk of shame on election night to concede at 10 point or better loss.
Electability has no meaning when the person is identified as a dem in an all dem town in a Presidential election year.
No republican can win that seat in 08, unless the dem in question is literally captured in an undisputed national news scandal of criminality.
That's jsut party politics reality.

well...tonight is the night...I'm leaving work on time to make sure I get there for the early start (6pm)...can't wait to see what happens!! Well its a safe bet that neither you nor me is beign installed as the new councilman! LOL It was indeed an emotional roller coaster for me last night. Despite your thoughts, Rich, I had high hopes that the Mayor and Town Council would see past my insubordination, reach across the party lines and pluck me from the audience as the newest Town Council member...if for no other reason than to follow the old adage of "keep your enemies closer". I even kept on my nice pants from work for what I felt was sure to be such a momentous occassion. Even after I saw George Schnurr (my apologies if I am spelling his name wrong) up there at the altar, I noticed one empty chair still available - perhaps there was still a chance!!!...but alas it was only because Councilman DiBenedetto was not in attendance. So it was with a heavy heart that I left the Council meeting last night, nearly in tears at this lost opportunity. I will be strong, though, and I will press on!! Please...don't worry about me!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!! As the old folks used to say, "and if you believe that, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you!" All kidding aside...congratulations to George Schnurr on his appointment. I had never personally met the man before, and to be honest, know little about him other than what I have heard from others in town. During his closing comments last night, he mentioned that he wants to try and mend the partisanship that has started to separate this town over the last couple of months. He also said that he and the Council should be open to any good ideas for the town, no matter where they come from. I really do wish you luck Mr Schnurr, sincerely I do...but if history is any indicator, you have certainly got your work cut out for you.

www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071228/NEWS01/712280423/1285/LOCAL09FREEHOLD — The all-Democratic Borough Council has named George J. Schnurr, a Planning Board member and former Little League president, to fill a vacancy on the governing body. Schnurr, a Democrat, was appointed at a special council meeting Thursday to complete the one-year unexpired term of Robert Crawford. Under state law, the appointee must be of the same party as the person who held the vacated seat. Crawford stepped down earlier this month because he was moving to Howell. His term expires at the end of 2008. "(Schnurr) shares our vision and our optimism for the future of Freehold," Mayor Michael Wilson read from a prepared statement. "He will help us to continue to develop new and innovative ideas for the betterment of our town." Schnurr has served for two years on the Planning Board and will serve as the council's liaison to the board. Schnurr said he began to work with the borough government as president of the town's Little League. Schnurr served on the Little League's board of directors for nine years and was president for four of those years, he said. Schnurr has been praised for his accomplishments in Little League, particularly for improvements to the town's baseball fields. Schnurr worked with borough officials to secure more than $300,000 in federal and state grants, which were used to repair the main baseball field and create a multipurpose field, playground and walking trail at the Otterson Road complex. A scoreboard and batting cages were added to the Fourth Street baseball field. Schnurr encouraged the borough's Recreation Commission to launch an "urban initiative" that would involve low-income children in organized sports, he has said. Schnurr said Thursday that as councilman, he hopes to cleanse the town of what he called its "partisan atmosphere." "I would like to put the last few months of the previous election cycle behind us and move forward to improve the quality of life in Freehold Borough," Schnurr said, also reading from prepared notes. "We need to listen to each other" without concern for party affiliation or group identification, and to pick good ideas regardless of where they came from, he added. Schnurr is married with two children. He is the director of information technology at the Howard Press division of FedEx Kinko's. Kim Predham: (732) 308-7752 or kpredham@app.com

Congrats George. As to the partisanship comment, why doesn't he or someone post here. It doesn't have to be an ongoing conversation, and it could be unofficial prepared" statements.
What does it hurt if council answers questions on matters of public interest? I think a lot of "partisanship" issues would have died quiet deaths but for silence, etc. which only heightened perceptions of wrongdoing, deceit, etc. Let's not go into that right now. But I think Geo is onto something.
Question: What happens with the seat Geo is in? Does he serve out the rest of Crawford's term or does he have an election this year for the rest of Crawford's term?
Again, congrats to Geo. Sorry, Casual.
