Unfortunately I had a training session last night and was not able to make it to the Town Council Meeting...and I noticed that there is no workshop meeting scheduled for this month...which means the next meeting would be the night before election day.
I was wondering if anyone went to last nights meeting, and what was discussed??

Last night was a pretty good meeting. No real hardball issues were discussed, but there was some positive stories to be told.
I mentioned in another thread about Pizza Hut helping the Memorial Day Parade Fund. I will go into further details in a separate thread, but so is Applebee's.
The Mayor and Council Honored, via resolution, Reverend William L. Frederickson for twenty years of service to the First Baptist Church of Freehold.
The presentation of the John G. McGackin award was presented to Nolan Higgins for his many years of outstanding contributions to our town. Past recipients decide who is to get this award. Councilman Kane got up and spoke about Mr. Higgins and rattled off a very impressive list of things that Mr. Higgins has contributed to in our town.
The above two presentations were the reason behind a filled council chamber last night. The room was full of positive energy.
On a more somber note, the Mayor and Council are also requesting that the bridge on Throckmorton and rout 9 be named after and in memory of Marine Corporal Phillip A. Reynolds.
The rest of the meeting was general business.
There were two applications made that I would be interested in learning about. The first was made to the State of New Jersey DEP for a community forestry management plan.
The second was also to the DEP for the Community Stewardship Incentive program grant.

I did not want to muddle up what I wrote about the meeting with the following. AS i mentioned, it was a positive council meeting.......exept for one person who's name I shall not mention.
During the public comments, a person from our town spoke and continued his ramblings from a past meeting, slamming the Mayor and Council. He was saying something about harassment blah, blah, blah, ...The Mayor should not be appointed to the Blue Ribbon panel on immigration because he is sooooo bad blah, blah, blah....
Most of what this person said made no sense and he was a real stick in the mud during an otherwise good meeting. Councilwoman Shutzer had the class to not respond to him as did the other council members who also ignored him.
The Mayor said nothing to him except that the person is welcome to be the Mayor's campaign manager. ;D ( That was funny)

Well -- Nolan Higgins and his family have been pillars of the community in Freehold seemingly forever. I am sure the award was well deserved. As for Corporal Reynolds, my dad was a founding member of the Marine Corps League detachment founded in his honor -- now one of the largest detachments in New Jersey. All of those are worthy ideas. And -- coincidentally -- they make great political sense in the last public meeting before an election where news can be made.

Awhile back I adopted the policy of not directly addressing the individual you mention, regardless of what he may say during public comments. It is in everyone's best interest to do the same and ignore his absurd and rambling statements that are supported by only a small handful of illegal immigration advocates - people, who would further harm our town in the interest of fostering illegal immigration in Freehold Borough. Marc, I hope you answer this. Your above statement is on the mark. ( No pun intended). The advocates are a small and fringe group and most of them do not even live here. With that in mind, some recent actions by those of you on the governiong body raise a lot of questions. The first is do you really think a bit more of the advocates? You mention ignoring them. Yet you appointed another to a committee he does not belong on. That is not ignoring them. That is pandering. You rightfully mention that they hurt our town in the interest of fostering illegal immigration. Why should any of them have a place at the table when they have done so much harm? So they can do more? I will admit, there are several recent actions and words from the governing body that really gets me to raise my eye brows and wonder what is going on in your heads.

Thank you. That does answer a question form last night. On a similar note, aren't we a "Tree City" designation? I mention that because Upper Freehold apparently is too. When you enter that town from some roads, they have nice signs that say as much. It is a nice greeting for visitors. Maybe we could consider the same?

Freehold Borough has been a Tree City USA for the past 10 years. Freehold Township is also a Tree City USA and has been one for 6 years.

Unfamiliar readers needed to know we are a Tree City USA, to begin with. Can't hang up signs unless you are part of the program I'm sure I've seen these signs around town. I'll look into it and see what's what. Personally, I hate seeing too many signs, of any kind, around town - I'd rather just look at the beautiful trees for which the designation is given.

In the past there's been "council meeting cancellation" the night before election day, interestingly enough -- especially if there is a hot button issue.
Let's see if it happens again this year.
