As I mentioned the other day, I object to the policies of the borough (not because I like illegal immigration) but because I feel the mayor has created deep divisions. Also, as a taxpayer, it has cost me almost $300,000 to fight a lawsuit that should never have occurred. We can either continue to go down path of confrontation or try and find some common ground. The mayor seems incapable of working with the Mexican community.
Another disaster is the failure to pass the school referendum. I have one child at the Freehold Learning Center and another set to go next year. I cannot tell you how many people voted against the referendum because they did not want immigrant children to benefit.
Wake up. My kids are suffering too. Why would I vote to deny immigrant kids the facilities when my own kids suffer as well. if that does not get squared away soon I will move out of the borough. I love it here but why do I want to condemn my kids to taking classes in a closet?
Another factor is that all the parents who send their kids to St. Rose vote against the referendum as do the seniors.
Ladies and Gentlemen we are destroying our town. Work with the Mexicans or we are done for.

Subject : Schools
FYI Freehold Lover, I voted against the referendum due to the fact That I do not have children in the schools. IMO, I am paying a great deal of money for a service I do not use. Other than property resale value, schools are not of interest to me. Do not take that as hostility toward schools, but another view point.
On a bigger note, I do want to mention something else that many people may not be aware of. Last year I sat with the PEOPLE steering committee when we put together the public informational meeting. Phil Meara was our guest speaker.
I do not want anyone to think that PEOPLE takes then or now a stance on the referendum. Those of us on the steering committee voted for it in different ways. Some voted yes, and some voted no. I have to clarify that point due to the fact that I often opine against more taxes. I do not represent all of the PEOPLE supporters on this issue. The one common goal we do have is to see the schools do well. There just are not any easy answers. If the schools continue raising taxes, the town will lose more of the same people who are paying them. Failure to better the schools, and people looking to come to the boro will not be as likely. Catch 22.
and FL, please turn your last sentence around. What are the Illegals and their activists doing to work with us? It is not a one way street.

Work with the Mexicans or we are done for. Freehold Lover, I am posing a friendly challenge to you. With respect to your concerns and view points, I would like you to answer the following questions. Without raising taxes, what would you do to better the schools? In the spirit of RK's thread titled "what would you do", what would you, FL, do pertaining to the illegal immigrant community in our town? FL, I am asking you this in the spirit of finding solutions, not to get into debate with you. As I have said before, different view points do have value, and I will welcome yours. Brian
