Bronx, 8 children and 1 adult (illegal aliens from W. Africa) die in a fire from an overcrowded power strip in an overcrowded home. Death toll may increase... 22 people lived in the house. Fire dept on the scene in less than 3 minutes (pretty quick) - imagine if they were there in 4 minutes- how many more would have died? www.wnbc.com/news/11197849/detail.html?dl=mainclickwcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_067025747.htmlthis is why many of the rental property's recommendations need to be seriously discussed, and immediately implemented. so go ahead, protest the recommendations at the expense of your own lives.

These tragic deaths are exactly why governments are empowered to zone and to enforce both zoning and code regulations. I am sorry to hear of these tragic deaths. Over-crowding in homes is dangerous to those living in the home, or near such homes. It also takes an awful toll on services. Remember, zoning and city codes allow for proper planning of services from police and fire, to water and sewer. Responsible citizens and responsible community groups should be embracing safety standards and zoning enforcement.

I do not think that the illegal immigrant activists at the meeting the other night care or get that aspect. They only want to think the worst of people who believe in these rental control measures. The activists the other night made it crystal clear that the are against ALL of the rental advisory board recommendations.

The activists the other night made it crystal clear that the are against ALL of the rental advisory board recommendations. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I will say it again... the illegal immigrant activists and advocates do not really care about making the lives of the illegal immigrants any better. I'll ask the question again...how many of these illegal immigrants are the advocates sponsoring to help become legal tax paying citizens?? How many of the advocates are pushing to get the illegal immigrants out of these dangerous living conditions and into apartments or homes of their own?? The answer is the same as it has been...none. Advocacy groups (as I have said over and over) simply do not care about making the illegal immigrants better members of society, they just want to call those of us who are trying, that wonderful word which gets them in the news every time...RACIST. Well let me ask a new question...what's the word for someone of a particular ethnic group, who themselves are living a very comfortable life as a legal citizen in their own home, who chooses to keep the people they claim to be helping, downtrodden and suffering simply so they can get their own names in the media?? Sounds and awful lot like exploitation to me...

Not from overcrowding, but something that perhaps regular inspections and outreach programs might fix: another tragedy due to an overloaded space heater (same as the recent Bronx fire: mother and 2 children die in Manville blaze. blog.nj.com/ledgerupdates/2007/03/mom_2_kids_killed_in_manville.htmlWe could fill a book with these sort of avoidable tragedies.

See my previous post on this topic. The protesters do not care about public safety. They made that crystal clear the other night at the council meeting. As I always say, I feel bad for the people the activists are supposed to be representing. FB better get ready for that next law suit.

South River mayor targets illegal housing Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 05/7/07 SOUTH RIVER: Mayor Robert Szegeti is urging a crackdown on illegal housing after a fire last week revealed 10 families living in a single-family home. "The fact is, the 10 families illegally living in the house were lucky they were not at home," Szegeti said in a release. "Unfortunately, this illegal occupancy might very well be symptomatic of other illegal housing . . . in the borough." The fire April 30 burned a two-story home owned by Beatriz Perez. The mayor is urging prosecution of Perez to make a strong statement against illegal housing. But no charges have been filed, police said. www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007705070320
