Freehold rental controls long overdue Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 03/5/07 As a spokesman for PEOPLE (Pressing Elected Officials to Preserve Our Living Environment) in Freehold, with great pleasure I write on behalf of many residents who are happy with the recent recommendations made by the Rental Advisory Committee. These measures are long overdue. All the volunteers who dedicated so much time to this endeavor have earned our heartfelt thanks. The committee took its time in researching these issues, looked at what other towns are doing, spoke with many different professionals and tried to put forth the best product that will benefit all in our town. These recommendations are a win/win situation for all involved. The tenants and their neighbors will gain a much-needed boost in enhancing and protecting the quality of life we all deserve. Any town would be foolish not to have these measures in place. With all the negative publicity our town has received, these initiatives are a positive development. The ball is now in the hands of the mayor and Borough Council. We hope all of the recommendations are adopted. The message must be loud and clear to any slumlord who would degrade the investment of the homeowners that deviant behavior will not be tolerated. PEOPLE will be watching this issue very closely. There are many dedicated volunteers throughout this town working hard for a good future here. The rental board has shown that in abundance. Thank you unwelcome guest. Let's bring the topics back to something constructive.
As to the recommendations, the town council should back table number 15, and try to install as many of the other 14 recommendations as possible. Unfortunately, there has been no debate or discussion on those. They are aimed at making places safe and punishing violators - pure and simple.
In addition, there was an outreach to the hispanic community to empower them to fight against poor landlords. But alas, this is not a worthy news story - "FB tries to empowers Latinos against ruthless Landlords"

Dudes and Dudettes: Thanks for posting the Asbury Park Press editorial. It is very hard hitting. I am far from being a political expert, but my question is can Councilman Levine survive politically? I don't know the answer. Casually Amazed

We're talking about a small town, not the US government.
With that said, there is no survival or death, because the scale isn't big enough to weigh anything on.
So, the answer to your question is an affirmative YES. No question about it. Whatever they do, they cannot break him, because the people in Freehold Borough will still vote him in, in high numbers. Maybe even moreso, the more these advocates keep doing their things. They're making him stronger, rather than weaker, because the only people that vote him in are Freehold Borough residents, and they are getting tired of the games that these LLA advocates are playing. So keep on empowering him, if that is what you wish. His numbers this week are even higher than in the past. You can take THAT to the bank.

It is very obvious to those that post hear that this is a political payback for our recent outrage at Frank Freyre's behind the scenes chicanery.
When you can see past the comment you wil realize that everyone out there is playing into what is really small town politics.
