This does not belong on our Main Street thread and is not directly related to the Borough, but I felt it well worth mentioning.
Today I went to the mall for the first time since the new stores opened. It is beautiful! I was skeptical of the upgrades and decor changes, but they did a nice job.
Inside the mall the floors are redone and look good. What I really liked was all of the sitting areas. Instead of hard cold benches, there are lounge areas set up everywhere with very comfortable cushioned seating. There are a few new stores this year, but that is nothing new.
Outside, the new stores are doing well from what I could see. The Cheese Cake Factory is open. I did not go in, but I have been told by others that the wait gets to be one to two hours long during off peak periods.
I can not help but to mention a tie in to our town. As I have mentioned before, I watched in the late seventy's and early eighties as Seaview Square Mall killed down down Asbury Park.
That experience has left me concerned about our town. No matter what we do, the competition against our down town area is fierce. I don;t mean this as a gripe or a complaint, just a concern. Our down town vision study will need to be on the ball and aggressive. We will have our work cut out for us.

A lot nicer than a red brick sidewalk hua? BTW, the Developer/Property owner , MACERICH, there stocks (MAC) are performing very well, to boot! You can only image what they spend on "VISION STUDIES", aka marketing and demographics. The Township is smart, they don't have to spend the money, let the BILLION DOLLAR developers do what they do best. I am sure the $25K grant for the Schoor Depalma vision study grant will tell the council what they want to hear. and where are all the kitchen help living??? Did you see the Seaview Square Mall lately? Mostly Parking lot. Again...let the BILLION DOLLAR developers do what they do best, we just need to find one or two. 6-12 and le Familar is not my concept of an Anchor store. It's sad when our biggest developers Ian investors are Wall cops not Simon Properties or DeBartolo!

Ted "Never Gonna Be Councilman" Miller:
El Familiar and 6-12 may not be your kind of places but they serve the community.
El Familiar offers very good food at affordable prices.
We do not have to be ashamed of being working-class. The stores should serve the people living in the community.
