"It is a chance to have some fun and learn a bit more about the safety concerns affecting all of us," DARE Program and Community Relations Officer Ronnie R. Steppat Jr. said in a prepared statement. The event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., will include emergency vehicles, face painting, strolling jugglers, a balloon artist, a turbo tubs amusement ride and a rock-climbing wall. Admission is free. Also, local groups including the Monmouth County Drug Alliance and the YMCA, will have information tables, and CentraState Healthcare System will have its mobile health awareness van available for free health screenings. "This is a special day for all us. It gives people the chance to connect with members of the entire community," Steppat said. The Police Department will be giving away popcorn and balloons, and the First Aid Squad will be selling hot dogs. National Night Out is a community crime-prevention event that gives law enforcement officers, business owners, children and parents the opportunity to get together for fun and friendship, organizers said.
