FREEHOLD — Police went to a Throckmorton Street grocery store because its window had been smashed, and when they reviewed surveillance video from the shop, they recognized the borough man on the footage, police said. So officers went to his Broad Street home, where they found Raul Payan Torres, 28, with blood on his hands, arms and legs, believed to have been from lacerations caused by the broken glass, police said. Payan Torres was charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. He also had five contempt of Freehold municipal court warrants for his arrest. Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Patrolmen Keith Bailey, Steve Cicero, Ronnie Steppat and Walter Perski were sent to La Placita, after the store owner received a call from a friend who said the window of his shop was broken, said Lt. Mark Wodell. When the officers went inside the store, they saw the cash register and other items on the floor, so the owner then played the surveillance video, said Wodell. That's when police recognized Payan Torres, said the lieutenant. Police said the 28-year-old tried to open the cash register, but couldn't, so he stole candy before leaving the store. After he was taken into custody, he was brought to CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township for treatment, then sent to the Monmouth County Jail, with bail set at a total of $62,500. Detective Mike Giglio was also involved in the investigation. www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070801/NEWS/70801008/-1/

Big deal breaking in. Here is my problem with this story:
5 separate contempt charges! The police knew where to find him and did not pick him up after the first contempt charge. The FB police is not that busy that it can't drive over to the apartments on Broad Street and have picked this guy up before.
my other favorite part is that he couldn't figure out how to steal the money, so he just stole candy.
Now, if the new sheriff was in town, there is a possibility that this $62,500 bail inmate would be sent over to ICE. One less problematic individual (note problematic, not the word "hispanic" - obvious this guy has run-ins at least 5 times beforehand).

LS--
You mentioned sending this guy over to ICE.
How do you know that he's an illegal immigrant, as opposed to a legal one?
Just curious.

are you kidding? I often notice people bending over backwards to be politically correct here.
Here's your answer: (1) hispanic; (2) living in Freehold; (3) living in the apartments on Broad St. (4) 5 warrants; (5) common sense.

There are a number of Puerto Ricans that call FB home. Lets know be judgmental now. Maybe Illegals do Smash and Breaks the Last Friday of the month to coincide with the Courts Schedule?
