To all readers:
One of the good things about this site is how well our town is archived and preserved. Some participants, like Andrew, have gone back and revived threads worth looking at again. That inspired me to start compiling several news stories and events that have occurred over the past year.
True to the nature of this open site, the stories contained are the good, the bad and the ugly of Freehold Borough. It all belongs here. What I am going to post does contain far more in the way of good stories and events. Contrary to what some say, this site is not that negative. As I was going through all of the old threads from the past year, it was very clear to me that there are many more positives reflected about our town and people than negatives.
I am going to take admin liberties and lock this thread until I am done posting all that I have compiled. After that I will open this thread back up so that all others may add what they wish. I will start with the ugly parts of our pas year and continue on to and finish with the many good things we have seen.
With the above in mind, read and enjoy, whether you are an old reader or a new one, I hope this will be a good thread for all of you, and I hope that we may all look forward to a good and better 2008.
Keep it sane and keep it Freehold

Second to the places to eat, Freehold is well know for a multitude of events. This again, is one of the very positive things about our town that is well highlighted in this web site. Go through the main Street threads and there is plenty of reading on the many great events we have in this town. I have picked a couple of good events this year for you to look at. I will start with the Battle of the Bands. It was only the first year of this event, but it was done well. Run by the FB recreation Commission, money raised helped the Educational Foundation. With a little luck this event will become a staple in our town. This is a great event to draw in a younger crowd than what many other events do. freeholdvoice.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=anythingfreeholdborough&action=display&thread=1187274700freeholdvoice.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=anythingfreeholdborough&action=display&thread=1190207762Another event that appeared for the first time this year was the Historic Bus Tour of Freehold Borough. This was put together by the Freehold Borough Historic Preservation Commission and they really did a fantastic job. I would say this event was a real success and should easily become a staple in our town. For those of you who missed it, make sure and check it out this coming year. It is money and time well spent. freeholdvoice.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=fbhistoricalpreservationcommis&action=display&thread=1181242867The above are the two newer events. There are so many others. SPOOKTACULAR reported a great success this year, and of course there is Kruise night, Latino Fest, reading of the Declaration if Independence, Antique fest, Concert series, and so many others. Newer readers should look through all of the Main Street threads to see what this town has to offer. For those of you who have been here, you are foolish if you are not taking advantage of all of the events that the FCP and the Rec committee offer.

I unlocked the thread so that all may contribute. AS you can see, I only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all of the things that have happened over the past year.
Now it is your turn readers. What do you remember the most of the past year? What are your best memeories of the Borough?
Feel free to share.

I will keep this simple.
For myself, the highlight of the year has been the activism of the "yellow t-shirt" parents and all they have done to help get the financial problems of our schools in the faces and under the skin of anyone in Trenton that they and Jennifer Beck could get their hands on. Kudos especially to parents like Julie Kudish, Jill Schiff, and Stacy Laberdee who continue to "beat the drum" for our schools. We could always use more parental involvement, but I think this year, we really started to get the ball rolling.
Worst part of this year (as far as this site is concerned), the disappearance of folks like Geo, Mark Levine, and others who presented opposing views in an intelligent, sensible way. I know that I get heated at times when discussing an issue that might get under my skin, but the whole point of debate and open discussions is to listen to opposing views, no matter how passionately you may disagree with them, and try to find a middle ground.
I fully admit that I have not always done this, but I have tried...and at least I am still here engaging in the debate.
Choosing to leave is one thing...going back and deleting your posts...that's something that I can't really respect. If you've said something, stand by it, don't try to deny that it ever happened.

Kudos especially to parents like Andrew, there were many more people who embraced the cause, who took days off from work to parade the Iconic yellow shirts in Trenton, many, many more Parents who went door to door, standing on the "car Line" and approaching strangers at shopping centers collecting signatures for our petition, for our children! This was community activism at its best!

Again, I hope we can keep up this level of involvment from the parents, and hopefully increase it, in this coming year.
