All right, the title is a bit misleading. To my knowledge, there have not been any sightings in our town. Having a coyote or two in our town would not be unrealistic. As it is, we have deer, and have had bear with in a couple of miles of us.
I bring this up because of all of the recent press from Middletown. Coyotes have been in Middletown, Wall, Neptune, Holmdel, Freehold Township and many other very suburban Monmouth County towns for many years.
My point here is to give all of you something to think about. Watch your pets and small children. It is never wise to allow either to go into a yard unattended. Walking Fido in the park? Keep him on a leash. You never know what you will encounter.
By nature, coyotes are shy of people. Bad timing or reliance on us as a food source can change that.
And of course, if any should see one, call the police. None of this should instill paranoia in people, but awareness. The likelihood of a negative encounter with a coyote is very slim.

Not misleading at all. Middletown is victim to the Eastern Coyote that arrived in Monmouth County in 1975.
Freehold Borough has been victim to the Southwestern Coyote that began arriving here in 1988 with truckloads of illegal immigrants from whom they often collect $1500 or more after helping them illegally cross the border.
Let's face it, the Eastern Coyotes just aren't as profit-minded as the Southwestern variety. However, both are equally difficult to trap.

Have no fear, if any coyotes showed up in Freehold, or anywhere near here, some idiot would just shoot it anyway.
