Not about Freehold, aside from the fact that his movies played in our local theatres, but Peter Boyle died today at 71.
The greatest actor of al time? Hardly. He seemed more "special" than great to me. For some reason, I am more saddened by his passing than I have been for others that have left us this year.
Perhaps, it is his connection with my own youth. The movie "Joe" was required viewing for a sociology class I took at Syracuse University in the late 70's. It was already 5-7 years old when I saw it for that first time and thought it to be a very powerful film. Boyle was excellent in that role. The paper I wrote about "Joe's" Bigotted character earned me an A. Thank you, Mr. Boyle.
"Young Frankenstein" continued my love for Mel Brook's films. I can watch Mel's earlier films over and over again and still chuckle at the same sights and lines as if I was seeing and hearing them for the first time. Peter Boyle was the perfect comedic "monster," in the movie and his hysterical role play with Gene Wilder and, especially, with the late Madeline Kahn is classic in film.
I wasn't a committed fan of "Everybody Loves Raymond," but when I happened to catch it on TV, I enjoyed Boyle's character "Frank" playing against the equally talented Doris Roberts. Who knew that this TV series would Peter Boyle's very last?
Here is news of Peter Boyle's death. May he RIP:
New York (eCanadaNow) - Peter Boyle has passed away at 71 after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma and Heart Disease.
Most recently known for his work on Everybody Loves Raymond, we first fell in love with the veteran comedian when he starred as the title character in Mel Brooks’ classic Young Frankenstein.
Boyle never won an Emmy for his work as Frank Barone on the hit CBS comedy, but he was nominated seven times.
He is survived by his wife Loraine and two daughters, Lucy and Amy.
