Yes, you all read the news fader right. The day laborers lost! It might sound strange considering that the Boro has to pay little bit of money. I did walk out of the council meeting tonight with a smile on my face. There was press there. The room had mostly the advocates for the day laborers.
I know that many Americans are not happy with law suites like this due to the fact that it is questionable that illegals have much in the way of any rights here, so bear with me.
What did the advocate really gain? Nothing. Just some reimbursements for bad tickets. Big deal. That happens all the time. When put in context, this suit was just small potatoes. It was nothing more than a platform for opportunistic and selfish people. The illegals do not have the right to a public funded muster zone. They will still be held accountable when they break our local ordinances.
When the Mayor and Council spoke, they did so with conviction and dedication to our legal residents. The advocates for the illegals in the room were visibly not happy with what they heard. I do not know what those advocates tried to prove, but the council made it very clear that the illegals won nothing. The Mayor and Council made it very clear that the town lost nothing.
In my opinion the only thing that was lost in this whole ordeal is the good name of our town. These advocates, from out of town, have done nothing but promote a selfish agenda for their own biased gain. They dragged Freehold through the mud for NOTHING!
It is good to have this behind us. Now we can move forward a little more easier. Now we have to work with and press our elected officials to continue acting in our best interests- Americans best interests.
A public thank you to Pat and her husband for attending the meeting tonight and supporting us.

Brian you sound very upbeat about this, but make no mistake about it, what you saw at the council meeting tonight was nothing less then total surrender, or more like retreat, but however you put it, the Mayor and council were not so upset because they won, and this you can be sure about.
However, with this said we gain nothing by this going back and forth, we have to live together and share this town and it is to the best interest of both sides to put this mediation behind them and look forward.
You do have to admit that if Freehold Borough had actually won they would have gloated just as you see the non-surrendering side is doing at the moment.

Sorry Brian, but they are not crying in their beers, they are toasting with champagne.
Don't mistake Mayor Wilson controlling the floor at a meeting for victory. What else could the illegals have gotten from this lawsuit that they did not get? What? Punitive damages? Is that our victory?
If you think the following are losses,
- destroying "our good name," - getting tons of publicity (bad for us, good for them), - getting a monetary settlement, - snubbing our faces in it by getting back money from fines, - changing the way code enforcement is done, - having our ordinance declared unconstitutional, - mustering throughout the whole town and acting like they friggin own the town (whereas the did not act that way before this lawsuit),
then what was our victory. What did we come away with?
If that is a loss for the illegal rights activists, I would hate to have seen their victory.
Don't forget, the other prior victories - they rule the schools, their businesses are thriving on Main Street, even the movie section at the library has been moved to fit more spanish language books. They protest right in front of our noses. They have taken over neighborhoods.
What victories do they have left? Can you think of anything that they don't have?
This is not the beginning of the end. This was the last stand. And it was a rout!

You do have to admit that if Freehold Borough had actually won they would have gloated just as you see the non-surrendering side is doing at the moment. Guest, I hope that one day you pick a name, it gets tiring referring to you as the guest with no name. If we have others that sign in as guest, it will get confusing. Anyway, as you may note, I picked your quote to single out, and I hope you do not mind me doing so. It is for the purpose of good discussion. Yours guest, is the most different from others. ( which is good!) I am very surprised that more people, besides Lybian Sybil, did not sack me for claiming that the day laborers lost. I am part sincere in that claim, but win or lose are not easy words to apply to this topic. Win or lose can better be defined by what people's expectations are. This topic got hot, quick. This web site has had a record number of viewers since the news of the settlement. It is for that reason that I am surprised at the lack of commentary. I will tell all of you, that last night, at that meeting, I had a small revelation. Something finally got through my thick Irish skull. I am not kidding when I state that the entire suite itself was a whole lot of nothing. I sat there and watched, and listened, and realized the following. Municipalities and other government entities get sued all the time. Police departments are often targets, due to the constitutional nature of their work. Government entities are insured for this very reason. There are opportunistic people who view the government as having deep pockets and try to play off of that. Many times when government entities are sued, they settle out of court because it is cheaper. A settlement does not indicate a victory for the plaintiff any more than it is an admission of guilt for the defendant. When this day laborer suit went to mediation, that showed that there was nothing of interest to put to trial. There is no case law established here. There is no precedent for others to follow. In other words, it is a small potato law suite. Again, people are reimbursed for bad tickets. This was just another law suite. If it were not for special interests with big mouths, it would have gone unnoticed. That is how irrelevant this suite was. As I looked around the room last night, I noticed only about four day laborers. There was four of us on the American side (probably due to the change in date for the meeting). The rest of the room were media, lawyers, and activists. It made me realize that the laborers were not the focus. The lawyers were the only winners. They got some nice fees collected. The activists? Who cares. They have a pr oven track record of being narrow minded and selfish. The media. They are the interesting ones, and this again brings me back to why I made the odd claim that the day laborers lost. I thought for sure that the Asbury Park Press would have a head line stating that the day laborers won. Much to my surprise, the press did not do that. Channel twelve news did claim that the laborers won. We found out last night the the illegal activists released a press statement saying just that. Apparently, the judge who heard this case replied with his own statement saying otherwise. Let us now discuss public relations. Lybian Sybil brought this up. Who really looks bad in the public eye? I would bet-actually I know-- that the average American is not sitting at home cheering the illegals. Most Americans want change and do not respect a class of people who break the law. Yes, Freehold has taken some very undeserved lumps. I will get back to that, but again, the blame is not the illegals, but the selfish individuals who represent them. The more they shine, the more Americans realize that they are dull. Remember the illegal alien marches in the spring? Americans were outraged! The more the illegal alien activists put on a show, the more damage they do to their own cause. The now marred name of Freehold? This is the biggest casualty in this dopey episode. I was interviewed by a reporter last night and I accentuated the good of this town. That is a very important point for all of us who really care about this town to understand. Not long ago, a writer on this board emailed me and asked why there are not more hardball topics. Why are there so many weird issues like SPOOKTACULAR and quilting bees. Good , fair inquiry. Yes, we should put the hardball questions and opinions out there. But, Freehold is a good place with so much to offer. We have to accentuate that as well. That is our public relations. That is why we have the high road while others would just sling mud and drag this town down. Surrender? Not even close! Last night the Mayor and council were visibly nervous. Who would not be when facing a room full of hostiles and media? But when they got rolling, they got rolling. I would love to get a full account of what the Mayor and council said so that you, dear readers, could judge for yourselves. They did not show an ounce of surrender, but a strong resolute desire to go forward, improve this town and continue the good fight against deviant behavior. I know, some of you will say those are only words. Tell that to the people from Lakewood last night. They are not used to a town government on their side, and from what I can tell were impressed with the Freehold leaders. Make no mistake, that does not mean that we just sit back. We will hold our elected leaders feet to the fire. We put them in office to represent us. For example, I know that there are many complaints about the code enforcement office. That was before and after the law suite. We will be watching them. We will expect our elected leaders to do what is right and to not only speak, but act on it. Yes, I was upbeat last night. I walked out of that meeting with my head held high and a smile on my face. Freehold will go on. Like many people I thought this suit was worse than it was. By the time I left, I realized different. This is still a good town. We have hope against the deviants. We do have people willing to take this town in the right direction. Now is when the real work begins. It is all far from over.

Sorry Brian, but they are not crying in their beers, they are toasting with champagne. Considering the lack of caring they have had for this town and it's legal residents, who cares what they think? The issue is dead, they can now wallow in their misery and obscurity. And if they want to feel good about a whole lot of nothing, let them.

And this you must do...and you must also come away from your TV sets and help out. There are no six or seven part time elected officials, anywhere, who can change a town's entire destiny. It is only the full involvement of people, who can move mountains. Freehold Borough is a team effort. You all are part of the
The late John Rosseel once walked the town with me and told voters that they needed to "give one hour of community service per week to Freehold Borough." If they were willing to do this, he reminded them that 10,800 (at the time) hours of effort per week." That's an impressive figure. John would then close with, " we can't change Freehold alone and if you won't come away from your TV sets and help us, please don't vote for us." He was right on target.
I believe in my words and my vision, last night, for a better Freehold Borough. But, I know this is only possible if everyone comes out and gets involved. Arm chair quarterbacks are too plentiful, but we need more movers and shakers at this very critical point in time.
To this end, there are existing committees to join; there are others that need to be formed; there are activities to attend, a downtown to fill; a First Aid Squad in desperate need of more volunteers; a fire department that also needs to grow. We need coaches for Little League, Freehold Soccer and Colonial Basketball. We need more places of worship that support our legal residents more than they support illegal immigrants. Some can work this angle and convince them that they are part of the problem.
We need people to report neighborhood code abuses and public safety threats by reforming Neighborhood watch programs. Our schools need more PTO members and volunteers to work events.
I can go on and on. Produce the people and we'll produce the opportunities to help the town. Who will come forward and help?
Marc

Chirp ( sound of crickets)
Come on people, do none of you have feedback on this ugly episode in our town history? I set myself up for some serious knock down. I has full expectations that some of you would either thump me or put forth your own views.
I give credit to Lybian Sybil and the unnamed guest for putting something up.
if this topic does not get you talking, nothing will.
