But how do the lot sizes compare?
If the rental is on a smaller lot, the taxes would be significantly less, since in the reassement, the assessed value of land in town went up far more than did that of structures.
To illustrate: the total 2005 AV (Assessed Value) of my property was almost exactly twice the 2004 pre-reassessment value - a 99% increase, to be exact. But the assessed value of my house increased only 29%, while the assessed value of my lot - less than .25 acre - increased 255%

To be fair. I researched properties in my area, compatible to mine, that are up for sale. It turns out the amount I pay(5400) per year is about right. I still wonder how that rental property got off so light. My area of town is pretty much small houses with varying property sizes.

The borough should deem it a commercial property and raise its taxes. After all, isn't it a commercial property to the owner? Agreed. They should be paying much more. Rental and real estate has become a good money maker. As we have seen rentals also can have a negative impact. The landlord can help offset that by paying some more. That little amount is an insult to the rest of us who are being taxed right out of this state. p.s. Publius, I see you have been promoted to "junior member" that is what you get for smiting me. Brian
