www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060730/NEWS/60730003Police break up late-night crowd Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 07/30/06 BY MICHELLE SAHN STAFF WRITER FREEHOLD — Local police and officers from three other communities were called to the Elks Club on Throckmorton Street to disperse a large crowd that became hostile, authorities said, when Freehold police officers tried to arrest a man. Around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Freehold Patrolman Christopher Otlowski was on patrol when he saw a crowd outside the Elks Club. There appeared to be some sort of dispute, so he and Officer Eduardo Santana approached and several people directed them toward a man who was walking away, police said. Witnesses told police the man -- later identified as Arthur Wolfolk, 25, of Freehold -- was involved in an assault inside the club, police said. Wolfolk ignored the officers' commands to stop, and when Otlowski grabbed the 25-year-old by his shirt to stop him, Wolfolk turned around, pushed the officer and cursed at him, police said. As the officers tried to place him under arrest, he fought with them, police said. Then members of the crowd began to run toward the officers and as the crowd grew, some began to scream at police, authorities said. Eventually with help from Officer Richard Ciampa, Wolfolk was handcuffed. But more than 200 people were blocking the street, so officers from Freehold Township, Manalapan and Howell came to help disperse the crowd.
