Temporary power outage in Freehold, NJAt least 5,000 were in the dark after a truck hit a utility pole (Freehold - WABC, January 23, 2007) - A blown tire caused a pickup truck to careen off of Route 9 and into a utility pole in Freehold, N.J., plunging thousands of customers in the dark.
Police say 35-year-old Seyfi Ozkul of Parsippany lost control of his northbound 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck when the front right tower blew out just after 4:30 a.m.. The truck careened into a utility pole near Schanck Road -- knocking out traffic lights on the highway.
Officials say at least 5,000 customers were left without power in Freehold, Howell and Colts Neck because of the outage.
The highway remained open, but access to connecting roads, including busy Route 33, was blocked as authorities investigated.
Eyewitness News has learned Ozkul was not seriously injured in the accident. It took several hours to retore power.
