He can't keep up with the anti illegal immigration letter writers, who have outpaced him 10-1...but he still tries - the silly, old fool.
People come to the United States seeking opportunities
I am sick and tired of reading articles regarding immigrants by such biased people like George Sabia ("Illegal Immi-grants Are Draining United States Resources," Letters to the Editor, News Transcript, July 25, 2007).
How many times do I have to state that many Europeans came here for the same reason that the Mexicans and other South Amer-icans are here? Pure economics.
Don't talk to me about how legal their ancestors were. A great percentage came here without papers, and history states as such.
Regarding diseases, do I have to mention that the diseases brought over by the Europeans wiped out thousands of the Native Americans? Why doesn't Mr. Sabia mention that?
Many hospitals are closing, according to Mr. Sabia. Name me one hospital that has closed in this area because of the immigrant population.
Indeed, CentraState Medical Center is thriving and expanding its facilities. So are many other hospitals in this immediate area. The only hospital that has closed its doors in this area is South Amboy, and it was not because of the immigrants using its facilities.
As far as jobs go, I say again that the Mexicans are doing jobs that Americans are unwilling to do. When I was a teenager, during the summers I would work on the farms, later for landscapers and contractors. Try to get an American teenager to do that now at $10 an hour. I can assure you that I worked for much less.
As far as housing is concerned and especially overcrowding, I do not like to see overcrowding. No one in their right mind does, but these people are doing the same thing in order to meet the high cost of housing ... [from] the greedy landlords ... that many of the Italians, Germans and Irish had to go through.
Can you afford to pay over $2,000 a month for rent? I consider myself middle class and there is no way I could afford to pay this kind of rent.
That is why there is overcrowding. Mr. Sabia, think twice about castigating a group of people less fortunate than yourself. These people have every right to try to survive, the same as your ancestors. It is human nature to move to another area where there is work and a chance to make a better life for your families.
The only people that came here involuntarily were the people on my father's side. My great-grandfather was brought here as a slave. My mother's side were American Indians.
We suffered greatly at the hands of people who came from Europe originally. So please don't tell me who belongs here and who should not be here. Try to be more tolerant. This is a big country. This is a country that is supposed to be a melting pot. Please try to get rid of the hatred that is evident in your letter.

I was hoping we would all be bored with TB at this point. I envision readers all rolling their eyes like attendees at council meetings do when he speaks. Go to the News Transcript archives and look up TB's name. He appears in several letters and articles over the years and has been saying the same exact things all along like a broken record. Here is the letter he was referring to Illegal immigrants are draining United States resources
In regard to Thomas Bald-win's letter about the illegal invaders inhabiting my country ("Leave Law-Abiding Immigrants Alone in Freehold," News Transcript, Letters to the Editor, June 27), the federal, state and local prisons are overflowing with them.
Hospitals across the country are closing because they cannot keep up with the influx of people who use the emergency rooms as their primary-care providers.
They undermine our wage structure because they can work for less than someone who must pay income taxes and Social Security taxes.
Many bring with them new strains of diseases that we have eradicated in the past. Often they will live 18 to 20 people in an apartment meant for one-family occupancy.
It appears that Mexico has outsourced their social services program to the United States. Instead of marching around Freehold with flags from south of the border, they should be demonstrating there.
When I hear from our politicians how great they are for our economy, why are they not great for Mexico?
Ride or walk around town and you will notice that almost all of the females of child-bearing age usually have a toddler in tow, another in a stroller or carriage and another on the way.
When I hear people say we cannot deport the 12 million to 20 million estimated to be here, we can start with those who come to the attention of the police (no license, no insurance, etc.)
The money sent back to Mexico is that country's second largest source of income, behind only revenue from oil, and this should be taxed.
George Sabia
Freehold Township freeholdvoice.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=letters&action=display&thread=1182953303And figuring that the new TB letter would make it's way here, I already posted a nice little piece on the impact of illegal immigration on health care. freeholdvoice.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=unlawfull&action=display&thread=1186575103Take note that TB conveniently leaves out the negative impact of illegal immigrants on schools. Someone should give him the nickle tour of ours as an example.

People dudes and dudettes:
At the risk of not "baiting" you all and having the wrath of our gestapo moderator fall on me -- I see nothing hateful about Baldwin's letter.
This is where you lose your credibility -- if they agree with you -- like the Kelso dude -- they are "insightful." If they disagree with you they are "hateful."
I have seen the Great Baldwin on several occasions -- he is an elderly gentleman who speaks his mind. He is a powerful voice for the immigrants.
The guy has cojones. He will tell anyone whetever he thinks. I think we at PEOPLE should give him a good citizen award.
If we nominated him that might end this "cloud of negativity" that hangs over this message board. The word on the street is we are negative and a bunch of screwballs and knuckleheads.
Right wing fanatics and losers is what they whisper when they hear about the People board. Intolerant and simple-minded. I know you aren't -- let us change that image once and for all.
We are not all a bunch of Nazis and skinheads.
We are not all members of the KKK.
We are not a "hate group."
I nominate Tom Baldwin for a Good Citizen Award to be given at the next PEOPLE meeting.

You stayed on topic with minimal nonsense and gave us a point of view as a bonus. We all knew you could do it. As always, you are entitled to your views. As far as old TB is concerned, do not get you panties twisted. most of us who have seen him actually have a strange respect for him. By all appearances, he does mean well even if he does march to his own drummer. And that is his right. Now, I will see you on another thread where we can talk about something interesting and new.

Mr. Baldwin is a decent, kind and spiritual man. And, he is also very naive. He oversimplifies issues and is willing to accept the entire illegal immigration problem - and it IS a REAL problem - as it is with no hardships or consequences for lawbreakers. He refuses to meet the people demanding justice, even halfway, and agree that there are penalties for doing wrong. This is plain and simple.
Anyone condoning the overcrowding of dwellings, because of an inability to afford the rent, is way out of line in his thinking. Gee, I could live in Rumson if I could only get 10-12 of my closest friends to move into that great house with me. Would I or anyone I know actually do this? Of course not.
If you can't afford your rent you have two choices: work a second or third job or find a place you can afford, elsewhere. If such a place doesn't exist in the US, then go home. That is always an option for immigrants that are not here seeking political assylum.
Curious. Why doesn't Mr. Baldwin cry as much for his fellow Americans, who can't afford health insurance (in today's report, mostly young people)? How about our own homeless people? Advocate Dorothy Argyros has been fighting Monmouth County for years regarding affordable housing - where is Mr. Baldwin? We also have people out of work. Many have been left behind in the wake of illegal immigration. Who advocates for our poor? Where is Mr. Baldwin?
Why such a keen interest in a single population that started off on the wrong side of the law in this country. Why advocate so strongly and without conditions for those who continue to skirt laws already on the books. Laws that other men and women are accountable for. Laws that other Men and women have obeyed, including our immigration and employment laws.
M. Baldwin is a very nice man, but he needs to move more towards the center and work with us instead of against us in fixing a situation that Americans consider one of the top three major issues threatening our country, today.

Marc Mr. Baldwin continues to either mis-understand or purposely confuse the issue of legal vs. illegal immigration. As a decendent of American Indians -- he should have a better understanding of the need for tight immigration laws and secure borders.

I am serious about clamping down on bad conduct. The temporary bans were just a start this week.

I have never understood Mr. Baldwin's position, considering the fact that his wife in recent years became a US citizen and went through the process the right way.

Powerful Voice? , yes of course good one Now I know where the term Tom Foolery originates. I am glad to see the News Transcript printed the letter. The verbiage illustrates how on "intelligent", "Well Thought out" and socially irresponsible the Feeble-minded can be. Lets all live in Corrugated Aluminum huts, with 20 hammocks swinging over the Dirt Floors, NOW that is affordable housing! Next, in TB's Part Two followup, Freehold Boro must follow New Haven! Unfortunate, I suspect Tommy B will be trumped by our Great Gov, who I suspect will announce a state initiative that will follow the New Haven "Immigrant ID Protocol". What should scare the b'geezes out of thoughtful, mindful responsible New Jersians, this Gov like to cater to the Tommy B's of the state.
