James S. Walling, a prosperous farmer living near East Freehold, died last Friday night as the result of injuries sustained in an accident about six weeks ago. On March 29th Mr. Walling was trimming a pear tree and attempted to pull off a limb that was not entirely sawed off. As he pulled, the entire tree fell on him, it being rotten at the trunk. A rib was broken and he was otherwise injured internally. It was not thought that the injury was very serious at the time, as Mr. Walling was able to be out since then. He became worse since and at the autopsy Saturday it was found that the broken rib had punctured a lung, causing an abcess to form. He was in his 52nd year and left a large circle of warm friends. He was an active member of the Freehold Reformed church. He was a son of the late John R. Walling, of Keyport, and was one of a family of seven brothers. He left a widow and three children. A son died a year ago.
