Steve Hersh grew up off of Ryan Blvd. on the Borough/Township border (off Broadway/Rt.79). We attended The Ranney School, together, and I dated his sister, Randi. Steve was very into TV and became an expert on the 1950's Superman series staring George Reeves. His knowledge of the show was so strong that he regularly appeared as a guest on the legendary (Channel 9 WOR), Joe Franklin (Talk) Show in the 70's. Steve was also a huge Star Trek fan and he helped organize and emcee the first of those, now famous, Star Trek conventions in NYC. As thanks for his efforts, the powers that be gave him and the other event organizers bit parts as "alien" extras in the first Star Trek Film, Star Trek, The Motion Picturestevenlance.com/portal/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=51While filming, Steve stayed with the family of the late James Doohan, "Scottie." Steve earned another bit part in a Woody Allen film, partially shot at the Jersey Shore, "Stardust Memories."Steve went on to author a very interesting book called "Written Out of Television," dealing with stars, who replaced other stars in TV series. Remember, there were two Darrin Stephens in Bewitched - Dick Sargent and Dick York. Steve and I ended up working together again at Asbury Park Press. Me as Associate Director of Human Resources. Steve, was an on-line movie reviewer for the Press' IN-JERSEY Web presence. Marc
