Bedle, Joseph Dorsett (1821-1894) — also known as Joseph D. Bedle — of Freehold, Monmouth County, N.J. Born in Middletown Point (now Matawan), Monmouth County, N.J., January 5, 1821. Son of Thomas I. Bedle and Hannah (Dorsett) Bedle; married to Althea F. Randolph. Democrat. Lawyer; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New Jersey, 1864; associate justice of New Jersey state supreme court, 1865-75; Governor of New Jersey, 1875-78. Died in New York, New York County, N.Y., October 21, 1894. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold, N.J.
