STORE BEGAN AS GROCERY
90th-year celebration at Freehold ShopRite Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 10/7/06 Foodarama Supermarkets is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its Freehold ShopRite store, now located at South Street and Route 9 in Freehold Township, starting Sunday.
The store's weeklong celebration kicks off with product demonstrations, sales promotions, free beverages, grab bags for the first 250 children, contests and raffles.
The store traces its roots to a mom-and-pop grocery that opened on Institute Street in Freehold in 1916. It was run by John and Mary Saker, whose family went on to found Foodarama, a chain that now has 26 stores.
