David Earl Garrison was born in Freehold, New Jersey, on June 30, 1952, as the son of Earl and Maud Garrison. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Boston University's School of Fine Arts. He is also a licensed whitewater river guide. His homes are New York City and Santa Fe (New Mexico).
