Mrs. McGackin, 88, of Freehold, died April 16 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was employed at the American Hotel, Freehold, for many years and later at Freehold Raceway as a parimutuel clerk until she retired in 1981. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold.
Mrs. McGackin was predeceased by her husband, John E. McGackin, in 1996; a son, Freehold Borough Mayor John G. McGackin, in 1984; and a brother, William Bryan. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, William and Jean McGackin of Farmingdale, Dennis and Kathy McGackin and Richard and Eileen McGackin, all of Freehold, and Gerald and Colleen McGackin of Newark, Del.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Lester Preston Sr. of Freehold; a sister, Helen Evans of Freehold; 21 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Freehold Fire Department, 49 W. Main St., Freehold 07728; or the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, 18 Spring St., Freehold 07728.
