In Memory of John Rupner

JOHN NICHOLAS RUPNER, 67, of Freehold Township, died Jan. 9 at home after an extended illness. He was born in Glenwood, Minn., and had resided in Plainview, N.Y., before moving to Freehold, in 1967.
Mr. Rupner was the owner and broker of J.R. Real Estate Agency, Freehold. He was a graduate of Hamline University, St. Paul, Minn. He was a graduate of Officer Candidate School, Newport, R.I., and served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade from November 1955 to December 1958. Following his tour of duty, he joined J.C. Penney Co. and was a buyer at the New York office.
Mr. Rupner was an active member and past president of the Freehold Township Lions Club and the Western Monmouth Exchange Club.
He volunteered on several Freehold Borough and Freehold Township civic committees. (Economic Development) Note: John initially proposed the Mechanic Street Redevelopment effort.
For the past two years, Mr. Rupner was a mediator for the Freehold Township Court System.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Freehold. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Nelson Rupner; a son and daughter-in-law, John T. and Claudia Rupner of Mirimar, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Kevin Lewis of Freehold, Jill and William Shimp of Antioch, Ill., and Elizabeth and Michael Avallone of Freehold Township; and five grandchildren. Memorial services were held at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Myrna Bethke officiating. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
