Freehold school board to meet in Jan. to discuss survey results Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 12/23/06 BY NICK PETRUNCIO FREEHOLD BUREAU
FREEHOLD — The Freehold Borough School District Board of Education is expected to discuss at a meeting next month the results of a survey soliciting feedback on various issues, including the twice-rejected ballot questions about a $7.8 million building plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the library of the Park Avenue Elementary School.
Superintendent Elizabeth O'Connell said the board asked for comments from voters after the failed referendums about what they do and do not like about the proposal and suggestions on how to amend it.
In one ballot question, the board sought $7,226,208 for a 6,200-square-foot addition at the Freehold Learning Center and renovations at all three borough schools. The second question sought $571,703 to build either a modular home or buy a house so the district could move its offices out of Park Avenue Elementary and Freehold Intermediate schools, which are part of the same complex, and help create space for three new classrooms.
The K-8 district is trying to find room to accommodate a 20 percent increase in its enrollment during the past five years, from 1,139 students in 2000 to 1,381 at the beginning of this year.
Board President James Keelan said the surveys contained 20 questions and dealt with communication, how residents get their news about the school, population growth and the budget, in addition to the building plan.

This is completely accurate. Sending e-mails or posting pregnant doges has some value -- but in the political world, the easier the protest, the less respected. Thus, written letters are afforded far more attention than e-mails, and showing up in numbers and being heard is even greater. Borough residents need to be heard, in person, eloquently, passionately, and intelligently.

Yes....I forgot to mention earlier, but luckily Richard picked up on it, that we should all show up for the meeting to voice our opinions, but do so in a way that is helpful to ultimately reaching our common goal.
I realize there are many on this site who have this belief that the board is doing nothing to try and resolve these issues. This meeting would be a perfect opportunity to ask them directly what has been done.
Remember, if you truly want to get something done, then you have to work with those who can make the changes...or you can run for the position yourself and make the changes from within. Either way, simply going down to the meeting and complaining will get you nowhere...come down with an idea or a suggestion, it will go a lot further.

I do hope and encourage all people to attend. I also want to mention that we should all be there in a supportive way for the schools, even when we disagree or find fault. We are in this town together, and it is important for all of us to not only attend but seek solutions and find ways to help. Brian
