I wonder what this is going to cost Borough taxpayers? (Other than decreased resale value of our homes, that is.)

TRENTON — The state Department of Education today released the 2005-2006 No Child Left Behind report detailing the yearly progress of state elementary and high school students.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, schools must establish and meet standards of accountability. The accountability system looks at how well students are mastering state standards in subjects such as reading, language arts and math.
Schools that do not meet all standards are assessed according to how many consecutive years they are deficient. Schools not meeting standards in the same content area for four consecutive years are deemed to be in need of corrective action. The actions can include instituting a new curriculum, extending the school day or school year, or replacing staff who are deemed relevant to the school not making adequate progress.
Schools that do not meet the standards of one content area in five consecutive years must plan to restructure. Restructuring can include actions such as re-opening the school as a charter school or replacing all or most of the school's staff.
Asbury Park and Long Branch middle schools must now implement their restructuring plan because they have not met the standards for one content area for six consecutive years.
