I hate to start off the day with bad news, but at last nights council meeting, we found out that Olde Freehold Day is canceled this year. According to Councilman Kevin Kane this is the result of not being able to get Freehold Borough groups involved. Kane mentioned that the organizers of this event do not want to go commercial with this event. Olde Freehold Day is intended to bring our town together with the help of various groups, churches etc. Councilman Kane assured us that the event will return next year. .

Brian:
Kevin Kane has done an excellent job with Olde Freehold Day over the years. As you know, he comes from a long line of Kanes, whose DNA strands are embedded with "recreation" genes. If they can't pull off great recreational opportunties for any town, no one can.
Councilman Kane made a sobering point at last night's meeting. Community groups are falling apart. This is why Olde Freehold Day has been postponed until next year. The committee couldn't gain enough commitments from local groups and clubs to participate.
It is very sad when civic groups and social clubs - the very flavor of a community - begin to wilt. This is not only happening here - it is happening all over. Why are people losing interest in belonging to things?
I suppose people are overworked and overscheduled. Perhaps, it cacooning at home and vegetating in front of the TV set is also at fault. Or, is it blatant apathy when it comes to the social issues many of these groups represent or is it the output of energy necessary to run events and fundraise to pay for them. Are people so anti-social, these days that they don't want to get together with their neighbors and friends and involve themselves in worthwhile pursuits or even just for pleasure?
This is all very sad. It's a trend that I hope does not continue for too long. Being involved should be a part of our normal lives. If we each gave ONLY one hour of our time each week to something worthwhile that would be 300 million hours of good will, 52 weeks a year. That's a lot of caring! That's a lot of fun!

Any news on Ye Olde Freeholde Daye?
I heard rumblings that Councilman Kane was organizing it for this summer. Was this just a rumor, or reality?
