District 12 Freehold High School Football Team to Be Honored for State Championship Victory
Senator Jennifer Beck and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande will be on hand at tonight’s Freehold Borough Council meeting to honor the members of the Freehold High School Football Team for winning the 2010 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Central Jersey Group III state championship last month. Each team member will receive a ceremonial resolution recognizing their accomplishment.
“The Freehold Colonials showed great spirit this season,” said Beck. “This was the team’s second trip to the state championships in three years, and its second win. However, athletics are more than a matter of who wins the big game. On the way towards winning this championship, these young men learned teamwork, discipline and the rewards of a job well done.”
“I am proud to be able top count these hardworking young men among my constituents,” said Casagrande, “and I salute their dedication to their team and to one another. They found their way to champion status by launching a comeback of nine wins in a row after a slow start to the season. This championship is not only a show of their athletic prowess, but of their character.”
Freehold High School football team won a 14-12 victory over Middletown South High School in the state championship game on December 4. The game was played at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway.
“The Colonials should be extremely proud of this accomplishment,” said Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon. “It wasn’t an easy win, and the team at Middletown South certainly put up a fight. This is the second championship title for some of these players, and they are sure to look back on this time with pride in the years to come.”
