We all know the Freehold Borough Police do a great job. I am a big fan of the department, and proud to know many of its serving members.
Over the last year, this site and others have done a great job talking about the success and dedication of Freehold Police.
It's a sad truth that "mainstream" media almost always only publish stories that cast the department in a bad light. Controversy sells, I suppose.
Once again, however, members of the Freehold police department did an outstanding job -- and it is the type of thing they doubtlessly do on a daily basis -- without fanfare. In this case, however, the assistance they gave was to a family member of mine -- and so I can relate the story and say thank you.
On Monday morning, my brother in law suffered a heart attack while trying to dig out at his home in Freehold. The police responded to the call -- and they played a vital role in helping to get him to the hospital. In fact, he coded twice, and it is a miracle he is alive today. (He had open heart surgery and is on the mend).
My sister and the EMT's could not have gotten him the help he needed without the brave actions of the Freehold Police Department that morning. He is literally alive thanks to the three officers who responded.
The responding officers, Richard Schwerthoffer, Chris Colaner, and Michael George all helped save a life that morning. That's more than most of us do in a lifetime.
Thank you from the Kelsey family.

Oh, Rich, I am so sorry your brother-in-law endured a scary heart attack. My prayers and happy thoughts for full healing are with him and your whole family.

I did see your sisters posts on facebook and she and her husband have been in my prayers. I am glad to hear that things appear to be going well considering the circumstances and I will keep those prayers coming and my fingers crossed. This post is important and belongs here. We are always more than happy to show off the good things that the borough PD does, which is quite a bit. I see Sgt. Colaner is one of the officers. The lamestream media had no problem plastering him on the front page with nasty allegations, but when do we ever get to see this part of the tough job these guys do? Showing off the good of our PD is one of the pleasures of this site. Rich, I know you are in Virginia, but being here and knowing how bad it was around here on Monday really drives this point home. Monmouth County was ground zero for this blizzard. Rescue efforts could not have been easy. All the more reason why the PD and other emergency services deserve credit and that we are fortunate your brother in law is recovering. Again, thanks for the post and prayers to your family.
