The Colonials defeated the Eagles, 21- 14, in 2008 when they won the school’s first playoff state sectional title.

Now, to win a second championship ring in three years, Freehold (9-2) will have to go through the same opponent, Middletown South (9-2), at the same venue, Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway, on Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.

We kept fighting and showed our character every day. After we went went 0-2, losing to two pretty good teams, week in and week out, the kids had to give 100 percent every time that put on the pads," said Freehold Borough coach Mark Ciccotelli. ``We wanted to control the clock and limit their touches, but we almost shot ourselves in the foot with all those fumbles. It's a testament to the kids that we were still able to show our character and win today."
