West Point Glee Club to perform in Freehold

FREEHOLD — Military songs — the kind that give you goosebumps when you hear them — will be part of the performance when the United States Military Academy Cadet Glee Club performs in Freehold Borough at 7:30 p.m. March 26.
The 70-member glee club under the direction of Constance Chase will bring their resonant voices to the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, West Main Street, for a spring concert, according to Robert DiSogra, who chairs the Special Music Committee at the church.
The March 26 concert will be free to the public. A free will offering will be collected after the concert. The church can seat 500 people for the concert.
“This is the only time in the past 10 years that the West Point Glee Club has performed in New Jersey, so this becomes a very significant and special program for Freehold and for our church,” DiSogra said.
“Under Chase’s direction, this glee club is in frequent demand for televised appearances as well as public appearances nationally and internationally. We have been on their waiting list for more than three years,” he said.
According to the glee club’s Internet website, the group has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, and at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The glee club has completed concert tours on the east coast and the west coast, it performed at ground zero on the first anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack in lower Manhattan, and the glee club has appeared with the Boston Pops and various symphony orchestras.
The glee club’s most recent recording activity took place in 2007 when the group recorded music for country artist Trace Atkins.
According to the website, “The Cadet Glee Club has its roots firmly embedded in the time-honored traditions of the United States Corps of Cadets. Secular singing in one form or another has been in evidence at West Point since the academy’s founding in 1802. First organized in 1903, the Cadet Glee Club is now a 70-voice mixed chorus whose members serve as musical ambassadors for West Point and rank among our nation’s most prestigious college choirs.”
