Last year there was a proposal for a Holiday Season Sales Tax Holiday, from Black Friday through the last week of Dec..., State Sales tax was proposed to be lowered to 3.5 %...
With the economy in a funk and consumers looking to save as much as they can, one of the best ways to shave several percentage points off your purchase plus bost consumer spending..., is a sales tax holiday!
States started having sales tax holidays several years ago and discovered that a lot of people were taking advantage of them. It’s the perfect time of year to help consumer save money, and merchants drive sales, and the state of NJ to attract holiday $hoppers from NY, CT and PA to spend their very finite BIG and small ticket holiday money here in NJ..., and help give our states "seriously" hurting economy with a needed major shot in the arm.
Do you agree or disagree with a Sales Tax Holiday for 2009?
What about throwing in an income tax holiday too?

I think it's a wondrous idea for the governor to put into effect, for the reasons you stated: more consumer spending, and more product movement not only for the retailers but the manufacturers. It's, to me, a reasonable short-term solution to get more money flowing into the stream. Meanwhile, there is a decent website I came across www.gottadeal.com that shows the Black Friday prices of numerous items from the major mass retailers. Just thought I'd share that one.

Its a good idea which will never happen. Or should i say it will not happen with this Gov. in office. Chris Christie is a different story, he may do it next year! Most states that did do they tax break for the holiday did not include, food, drinks or jewelery.

Almost any time the government cuts taxes, it will promote economic growth. Tax increases do just the opposite.
So, yes, this is a very good idea.
