Freehold Church of God to celebrate Black History Month
Reverend Ira Jean Cobbs • Reader Submitted • February 5, 2009
Despite the cold and wintry weather, members of the Freehold Church of God located at 26 Avenue A extend a warm welcome to members, families, and friends in the community to come and celebrate our heritage at the Annual Black History Friends and Family Day.
This special event begins at 11:15 am on Sunday February 22, 2009. This year the celebration will be particularly meaningful as we consider the most recent historical event, an event which has been noted around the world.
We invite our friends and families from the community and surrounding areas of Freehold to worship the Lord with us as we reminisce the hardship of the past, the hope of the present , and the opportunities of the future. This service will be spiritual, inspirational, and educational.
Friends and Family Day will include songs by the Freehold Gospel Ensemble, The Freehold Gospel Chorus, and selections by a noted soloist, Solomon Cobbs, who has been featured in many gospel venues in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
There will also be recitations and speeches, inspirational stories of experiences past, present, and of future hopes. Kayla Cobbs, a sixth grader at Howell Middle School, who won first place in her category among students in grades six thru eight in an educational promotion sponsored by Schering Plough, will read her award winning essay.
The public is invited to attend this family friendly event which will also include a free soul food meal.
For further information please call the church office 732-431-1882 Brother Leo Reason, President of the Men's Fellowship is the coordinator of this annual event., Bishop Gerald Cobbs is the pastor.
