Schools advised to curb spendingCourierPOstOnline.com • January 21, 2009 TRENTON — New Jersey's education commissioner has told the state's school districts that they should freeze all nonessential spending for the rest of this school year. Commissioner Lucille Davy, in a recent letter to school districts, said it's unclear how much state aid will reach local districts for the 2009-10 school year. Aid to local districts makes up about one-fourth of the state's overall budget, which is now facing cutbacks. www.courierpostonline.com/article/20090121/NEWS01/901210336/1006

When I read this it makes me really glad that the schools can only jack up our taxes by four percent. Otherwise we are going to get stuck paying for an awful lot of mandates. I feel bad for the people running the schools, with less state aid, they will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
