St. Rose girls win soccer title
Lady Jags were a perfect 10-0
The St. Rose of Lima girls soccer team had a season for the ages. The Freehold Borough school captured the Monmouth County Intermediate School Soccer League's American Conference Division E crown in 2008, and the Lady Jaguars did it in style. St. Rose went a perfect 10-0 during the MCSSL campaign.
"We had a great season with an outstanding effort by all of the girls," said coach Christine Pascoal. "Our four eighthgrade captains helped anchor the team, as well as five returning seventh-graders, giving our team a sound base.
"The addition of new sixth-, seventhand eighth-grade players added the talent needed for the Lady Jags to go undefeated."
Two of the team's four eighth-grade captains, Bianca Piccione and Jordyn Styczinscki, represented St. Rose in the league's All-Star Game. Piccione plays sweeper on defense and Styczinscki is the goalie.
Emily Higgins (forward/midfield) and Emily Fortier (midfield) are the other captains who provided leadership throughout the undefeated season.
Mary Francis Prugno (midfield) and Kayley Barkalow (midfield) are two of the eighth-grade additions that added talent and depth to the squad.
The returning seventh-graders who brought experience to the Lady Jags are Emilyrose Nowak (defense), Hayley Pascoal (keeper), Allie Rocco (midfield), Madison Dunn (forward) and Eileen Byrne (forward).
Seventh-grade newcomers included Courtney Thompson, Geena Ragozine, Cassidy Columbe and Kylie Elimanco, who were all midfielders or forwards.
The sixth-graders who made an impact this year and who will be part of the Lady Jags' future are Annie Ambrosio, Emily Czensik and Bridget Keane. They are midfielders and forwards.
