Recently I had the time to go to two great community fairs. The first is the Italian festival in Ocean Township. I haven't been to that one in about twenty years, but growing up there, it was a staple in our community that we all looked so forwad to. I also ran into an old schoolmate and friend. He got old! I am glad I didn't. ;D
The second was this weekend, the Colts Neck fair. It was the first time the wife an I had ever been to that one and it was very well done.
In both cases, I could not help but to miss having Olde freehold Day. Seeing the these other towns running such great events was very inspiring. There was a true sense of community and tradition at both. At both events there was such a unity and spirit captured. People were having a great time with family and friends.
I hope one day that we can also get something like that back in our town. It really is a moral boost for all. What better way to bring our entire town together than a great festival that includes all?

did you notice at Colts Neck that most booths are aimed at some charitable cause? think if this town did that for the first aid and fire department.

I noticed the First aid squad selling food at the last Kruise Nite I went to. I am sure the fire department does things as well. If we could get our own community fair back, those things would of course be there.

selling food is one thing. Having a booth with games of chance or having a ride is another.
that would actually be pretty cool. having a few games of chance, all devoted to the first aid would be a crowd pleaser.

A few weeks back I posted about a VOLUNTEER Fair, close down Main street for ALL volunteers organization and residents can celebrate their/our service to the community...A true community Pride event. PTO's, NPC, HRC, Knights of Columbus, Memday Parade Committee, Church Groups, Word Changers, First Aid, etc, etc.... Simple fact is Freehold Borough, aka Monmouth Courthouse has a rich history of service and volunteerism ..cerca...., This same Courthouse (now the Monmouth Hall of Records) was used to care for wounded British and American soldiers after the Battle of Monmouth. In fact, when General Henry Clinton withdrew British forces under the cover of darkness after the battle, some five wounded officers and 40 men were left behind in the courthouse. As well, ST Peters church was unfinished when the Battle of Monmouth was fought in 1778. It was used as a hospital during the battle as a Hospital too. (Is this the precursor to our Current Fist Aid Squid?) I concur that we need to celebrate the historic positive culture of freehold borough, You see, in Freehold Borough we volunteer because we CARE! We Care, because we LIVE HERE! Thats Olde Freehold aka... Ye Olde Monmouth Courthouse for a Day, DAY.

(Is this the precursor to our Current First Aid Squad?) Interesting. The plaque that is prominently displayed, placed directly in front of the Hall of Records has this revolutionary information. I have a picture of it and some of the St Peter's Church graveyard. Brian, I will send them over to you to post. I am sure that the CIC has similar pictures and all CIC members are well aware of these facts already.

Fiber, your volunteer fair idea is, to me, an exciting and potentially viable concept. I really like it! Lisa, A few people asked me about this Volunteer Fair recently. Its great to see that the council reads this site and agree with me about this Volunteer Fair initative..., its wonderfull. I will advise the organisations that I am involved with to keep an eye open for this event! What is nice to see is that these new events that are spawned from the Freehold voice are a positive reflection of this site, the posters and readers alike.
