Fiber...I have to say...while I too will miss the history of the stadium...being a lifelong Yankee fan, it's time for that place to go.
I have read that the only thing in the current Yankee stadium that remains from the rich and historical days of yore is home plate. Everything else has been replaced, redone, or removed...so the only history that really remains is home plate.
While personally I think they should leave the ball field there just as a reminder of the simpler days when it was "just a game", the old stadium has become too crowded and cramped for the 4 million fans the Yankees have drawn the last couple of years. Try going out to get a hot dog from a concession stand in the middle of the game and see if you can get back to your seat before missing at least 2 innings. It has gotten ridiculous!!
All that being said...odds are I will not be going to that many games in the new stadium, as I am sure the price for tickets is going to push me right out the door. Whether or not my father and Phyllis decide to renew their season ticket plan (which they've had for years now) is up to them - though I don't think they have officially gotten word yet from the Yankees that they will be able to renew in the new stadium.
Anyhow...the games have gotten too expensive for me, and so I have pretty much written off the idea of going to any more games this year...and since ticket prices never go down, they only go up, I don't see myself heading to too many games in the future.
In fact, that's the real shame about the whole situation in the Bronx, out in Flushing, and even over there in East Rutherford...sports teams are pushing out the average fans in favor of corporate boxes and suites and overpriced tickets that the average family can't afford.
It's laughable considering that at the ground breaking ceremony for the new Yankee Stadium, George Steinbrenner stood up there and said that he was doing this "For you people...for the fans"...I guess he was talking to the coroporate big shots who were invited to the actual ceremony.
One last thing...as far as the DH is concerned...the National League is, I believe, the only holdout on any level of baseball. It's time to abandon the pitcher rule and just put in a DH
