It is that time of year again. The Freehold Center is seeking volunteers to help out with planting flowers along Main Street.
Planting begins at 8 AM on May 24, and late comers can simply join in until all planting is complete.
Last year there was a very nice turn out and it went very fast. This is a good time to meet some fellow residents and take part in something that takes pride in our town.
As long as I am not working, I will be there and I hope some of you will join me.

I almost forgot to mention, those interested in helping should meet at the parking lot adjacent to the Hall of Records Annex

That "person" was me! Here I was riding back and forth on a deserted Main Street, at 8 am on Saturday morning, looking for Brain with his shovel and rake and, instead, I found him at home -fast asleep (see photo below) and still in bed with his pajama's and "Teddy Bear!" BUT, he inspired me to go to Gasko's; buy my own flowers and plant them in my own yard. I look forward to using the horticultural experience I gained, at home over the weekend, next Saturday at the FCP flower planting. Thank you Brian! Let me know when the next morning comes when YOU have decided to sleep late! LOL!!!

It is almost an added bonus that the antique fest was postponed. The people who attend the next day will see a prettier Main Street due to the volunteers who have pride in this town and help out on the 24th.

The volunteer planting started at 8AM and was finished by 10 AM. There was a good number of people who showed, I would estimate about twenty five to thirty. The volunteers consisted of people of all ages. Several people brought out their teenage kids.
This was a very enjoyable morning, time well spent with all of you who showed up. Mark, Geo and daughter, Maureen with her daughter and friend, Bunny, and several other good people of Freehold Borough.
Tomorrows antique fest and the Memorial day parade will look much better because of all of your efforts in helping the FCP make our down town an attractive place to be.

The following is a message from Jayne Carr
With volunteers from Freehold Council, Colts Neck High School JRROTC, Monmouth County Master Gardeners, Freehold Beautiful, Freehold residents and business owners, many hands made for fast work. (I think we broke our record on time.) Over 100 flower barrels throughout the downtown business district were planted this morning under the supervision of Taylor Landscaping. Thank you to all of the volunteers! Jayne
