Mayor Wilson Resigns

FREEHOLD -- Longtime Freehold Mayor and former Springsteen garage band mate Michael G. Wilson resigned today. Wilson, a fixture on the Freehold Borough Municipal Government since 1982, rose to Mayor in the spring of 1985. Most recently, Wilson was re-elected Mayor in an uncontested election this past November.
Observers were stunned by the announcement, noting that the Mayor had seen the town through so much adversity and change, and had decided to continue to serve.
The Mayor issued a short statement:
"After thoughtful consideration, I have decided that my time of community service should end. This was the most difficult decision of my life, but one I feel is in the best interest of the community and my family. After reading, and re-reading the Freehold Voice website, I realized that I really didn’t have any d**n idea what I was doing. The very least I can do is step down, and give someone else who has no idea what they are doing an opportunity to undo what I have done. "
Wilson made the announcement from the seat of his U-Haul truck, which definitely was not being loaded by day laborers.
He said he would be moving to the Villages where he hoped to pay penance by attending daily meetings with former Freehold Republicans Bill Boyle and Eugene Kelsey.
