Nice, so when one feels the heat, you call the other party "totalitarians" and paint a false and distorted history!
Classic tactic of vilification, only in this instance you can't wash the truth away!
Unfortunately this commentary paints a thin vernier of cheap deception over the clear of truth!
What confuses me, and please help me understand...., who was Mayor when it was decided to approve a muster zone (1999 was it) in the first place? Talk about giving a pinky and they take the arm!

Letter gave the press a chance to assess panel's report
I write this letter in response to one recently written by Maureen Haley, chairperson of the Freehold Borough Rental Property Advisory Committee, in which she described my decision to release a letter to area newspapers as a "rogue action."
I released my letter objecting to several misguided proposals by the committee on the day of the report knowing that the articles would not appear in area newspapers until the next day. This way reporters could assess the report and my objections at the same time.
Furthermore, our findings were publicly discussed at several meetings. There was nothing secret that needed to wait for an appropriate time to be released.
Ms. Haley fails to grasp the meaning of free speech and democracy. It is my right to try and influence public opinion and debate ideas at a time of my choosing. I do not need the permission of Ms. Haley or anyone else to voice my opinion.
My objections to the report center around the idea of possibly passing an ordinance that would make landlords responsible for determining the immigration status of their tenants.
Given the troubled history of Freehold Borough, I think this is a mistaken policy, one which Ms. Haley strongly advocated at the meetings.
I also want to be clear that I personally do not object to regular inspections of rental property, increased fines for bad landlords, and educational forums for tenants and landlords. I am, however, concerned with the tortured history of relations between the administration of Mayor Michael Wilson and the Latino community of the borough. It is important that, given that history, the civil rights of tenants be respected. Only in totalitarian states, is speaking out a "rogue action."
