FREEHOLD -- The borough school district's Board of Education is expected to adopt its preliminary budget of $16.67 million for the 2007-2008 school year at a meeting this evening.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Freehold Learning Center on Dutch Lane Road.
The district is asking voters to approve a tax levy of $7.43 million.
Extracurricular sports and activities are expected to be cut in addition to 12 positions. Those include one guidance counselor, a librarian, an art teacher, a music teacher, a fourth-grade teacher, a fifth-grade teacher, two custodians, three office assistants and a math supervisor.
The district is expecting to add two first-grade teachers and 1 3/4 world language teaching positions.
A public hearing on the budget is set for 7 p.m. March 26 at the Park Avenue School. Residents will vote April 17 on whether to adopt the budget.
