'Proud to be a Partner' award winners unveiled
FREEHOLD - Continuing its tradition of recognizing and honoring those businesses and individuals that make a special difference to the borough of Freehold, the Freehold Center Partner-ship has presented this year's "Proud to be a Partner" awards.
This is the 10th year individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions have been honored by the partnership. There were eight honorees this year.
Among those recognized was John Ballew, the owner of Ballew Jewelers, who was honored as being one of the founders of the Freehold Center Partner-ship. His work and vision helped put in motion the rebirth of downtown Free-hold, according to a press release from the partnership.
Honored in memoriam for his work with and as one of the founders of the partnership was Jeff Jones, who was a tireless promoter and cheerleader of Freehold Borough. Accepting the award on Jones' behalf was his long-time business partner and Court Jester co-owner Mike Page.
Cozmo's Hair Color and Design Studio, a new business in town, was recognized for its efforts in beautification. Located on East Main Street in the former American Hotel, the owner of this salon has remodeled and renovated the interior and exterior of this space.
Café 360 has transformed the former Gibson Plumbing Supply building on East Main Street into an upscale café and coffee shop replete with areas for customers to kick back and relax, according to the press release.
John Vitale was recognized for the facade and sign renovation work for his South Street offices.
Lorenzo (of Lorenzo's restaurant), the owner of the site that formerly housed Busy BBB's florist and what is presently home to Quiznos, was recognized for the renovation of that building.
Quiznos was acknowledged for its business and development initiatives for the downtown area. A new restaurant, Solo, was recognized for renovating a former restaurant on South Street and making it a gourmand's destination.
The "Proud to be a Partner" award was established by the Freehold Center Partnership to show appreciation to individuals and businesses that enrich Free-hold Borough.
According to the press release, recipients of the award all work toward fulfilling the partnership's mission "to foster the center's economic development; and encourage its continued revitalization while preserving its grand historic past. It is committed to strengthen the economic, cultural and commercial contributions of the center to the residents and property owners of the borough of Free-hold."
