where in Freehold? I couldn't find more info on their website, other than "coming to Freehold." I never heard of this restaurant, but the menu sure looks good: bayoucafe.net/menu.html

Excellent... any word on live entertainment???
I think John Padovano (the entertainer listed on the Bayou's Manasquan website) was/is playing at Cafe 360.

Great news. Didn't take long to get two fine new tenants downtown. In a recession, this is especially good news. On the down side, one of the latino places closed. The one near CVS. Lets see how long it takes to fill that store in, it is a prime location.

Well, both sites near the CVS seem to have had bad luck in the past couple of years.

Which place closed down? I didn't notice... The place I can't pronounce. The other place, El Familiar, is still there and I think going strong. As long as the Taste doesn't close, that is the best Latino Food in town. ( At least since Mechanic Street Bistro closed)

The chicken platters are also a good bang for the buck

We peeked in the windows yesterday to check out the goings on and a couple of the friendly folks working in there invited us in. All was nearly in place for their 'soft' opening TONIGHT!
What fun!

Open mic night? Really? Wow. I did several of those years ago, singing ... won stuff. I love to sing, maybe I'll come out of my shell and belt some tunes as I open the pain floodgate in my heart and let the voice rip. I'll get out my guitar and back you up on some Led Zep and Doors tunes.

Instead of waiting for a reply from someone who went there, we decided to go to the Bayou Cafe and find out for ourselves how it is.
This place is a keeper! The prices were reasonable. The portions were a bit small, but very tasty. The menu is not huge, but there is a very nice selection and variety. The service was excellent. And I did like the New Oreans style Jazz that was playing during dinner.
They are doing a Mardi Gras celebration on Feb 23-23 all day long. Luncheon buffet is 10.95 per person. Dinner buffet is 21.95 per person. check out the site for reservations. They will also put you on a emailing list for events and specials.
We will be back.

Brian, I saw online that they have live music. Did you see anything about live music in the future?
What did you eat?

We did ask about the live music, and there are plans for entertainment on weekends. It sounds like it will be a variety. We both had appetizer, main course, and dessert. Me, Combo platter, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and Traditional banana fosters she, alligator bites, Crawfish Etoufee, and pecan pie.

We're going here on Friday, I so cannot wait! ;D reviews from my party: Appetizers: The trio was good, but next time I would just go with the BBQ shrimp which is part of that trio - very very good. The fried crawfish with tiger sauce was also good. The quesidilla was okay - I'm not a quesidilla person. With most entrees, there is a choice of soup or salad - no brainer - go for the gumbo! Entrees:Jambalya was spicy (be warned, have a full glass of water before you start)... Crawfish Etoufee was good, a keeper. Crab Cakes were also good (but, of course, I make better). Dessert:Bananas Foster was very good. Bread Pudding was also good. Pecan Pie - good, but have had better Service was very attentive. Biggest disappointment - the music. I was expecting New Orleans jazz, or something a bit more southern. It was casual dinng music. I learned that they may contemplate having a monthly Mardi Gras... but that is only being considered, not a done deal. This place will do well.

BYOB is always a plus. I was with my wife, lil Ryan, and another couple. Here's the quick and dirty: The ambiance was very pleasant and relaxing. The service was very professional and attentive. At one point, the manager (I wish I caught her name) came over and asked if she could hold Ryan and we were all to happy to let her. She was watching Sesame Street with him on her laptop in the corner and playing with him for at least 20 minutes which was so incredibly awesome! The chef/owner came out and greeted us during the meal which is always a great touch. Oh, I also asked the waiter about the crawfish etoufee (yes it is a keeper) when i was deciding what to order. Not 2 minutes later, he walks over with a little sample plate for the table, courtesy of the chef. We were all so impressed by that touch. The food was great. I had the etoufee with the seafood gumbo. Very nice. I loved it. The jambalaya was pretty good, not the greatest ever, but good. I forgot to try the other food at the table because I was busy stuffing my face. We had the chocolate mousse and the bananas foster for dessert. All very good. Make room at the top among my favorite places in Freehold! I can't wait to go back.

Ka19 and Novillero, how busy was the place when you were there? I went there early in the evening (6:00) on a weekday. There was one other table occupied at the time. By the time we left - 8:00, there was a goodly amount of tables filled. I faced a wall, so I didn't bother to check the occupancy, but it seemed that the place was hopping.

On a friday night at 7:30-9ish there were about 7 or 8 tables occupied. Word needs to get around about this place.
The other thing I forgot to mention was that this place is a tremendous value for your dollar. It was a five-star dining experience at three-star prices.
For the $50 my wife and I spent, we enjoyed a pretty ambiance, professional and appreciative service, VIP treatment, excellent food and a bottle of wine that we brought from home. Our waiter corked the bottle for us and poured like a pro. Everyone should try this place.
