The Board of Health meets tonight in Borough Hall at 7 PM (11/16/06)
The meeting is open to the public.
Among the things on tonight's agenda is a recommendation to increase our fines, especially those related to situations like the illegal restaurant, as well as going door to door selling food (someone was picked up in town this week), etc.
We are also expecting a report from the ABC, regarding the illegal restaurant. Sam Daesener spoke to them just after the October meeting.
Other items on the Agenda include:
Monthly Activity Report Complaints Lead Remediation Rabies Clinic Wildlife Feeding Ordinance (adopted from Freehold Township's)

Who? A brownie or girl scout? I did not think there was a door-to-door ordinance yet. On what grounds were they "picked up?"

No, No. This was a Latino woman , selling hot food itens on our streets without a food handling permit. This was a board of health issue. It constitutes a health risk. We understand that there are a few people selling food this way.
The No Knock Ordinance is a separate issue and is currently being refined. That one has nothing to do with Board of Health policy.

Interesting. Does this call for state authorities as well? Is this something that gets the normal run-through or does it get special attention? meaning is this something the borough is trying to crack down on? Also, it would be interesting to track her to her house, see who she rented it from? I mean, what is the difference between selling food on the street versus having them come to your home to sit down and eat? Just the location.

This is precisely why this was on the BofH agenda - to discuss the "bigger" picture. After YOU inspired me with regard to our friendly illegal restaurant, my main focus went right to the bottom-line of WHO CALLS THE SHOTS when an investigation, like the home restaurant, is unfolding. Every team effort needs a point guard to take time out to consider what "else" needs to be happening and done (e.g. call ABC, embargo the goods, get the prosecutor involved, etc.).
We all learn and improve as we go along. The board took some strong initiatives, last Thursday, which were sent to the council. They joined with you and me in our dissatisfaction with the penalty phase of that bust. That kind of dissatisfaction was much better expressed with these people that count, rather than sending out a message, in the newspapers, to reinforce the motivations of these and others looking to beat us after breaking the law.
BTW, your point is well taken about following such people home and that WAS discussed by the Board...in fact, is part of the investigation.

Marc Marc, is there an application/form that a person wanting to sale food (catering) needs to fill out? Where would this person get such application?

I understand that the new Huddy's location at the Day Inn motel failed to get a permit and ignored the FT health inspectors, who gave him an ultimatum or else. They effectively told him he was closed, but he remained open and will be more heavily penalized. Of course, that is Freehold Township and Huddy's has been in business for years in Colt's Neck and should know better.
I see that the same thing happened at "Ragin Cajun" in Belmar, recently. The owner was given 60 to comply and she didn't, so the restaurant was closed down. This was just in the APP.
My point is that if people don't know what is required of them, they can easily search the web or pick up the phone and call their town.
Ignorance isn't usually a good defense, even though the illegal advocates want us to believe it is when it comes to their folks.
