Let me just say this about that and the advocates should take this into consideration even more than this FB Elephant. "Bridges" are exactly what we need here. The advocates and their trolls already propose to be smarter than both the Dems and Repubs, combined. If they can't or refuse to build their half of the bridge towards better relations in the community, than they are plain dumb and ultimately doomed to failure.
I, personally, prefer to consider illegal immigrants, illegal, until the federal government says otherwise. I will continue to lobby our government to actively enforce its current immigration laws until such time as a final determination is made on the status of immigration laws. I will also strongly lobby against any and all immigration reform unless it includes adequate penalties, as well as provides for aggressive, ongoing enforcement of enacted immigration, employment and fed/state tax laws (and ordinances). I will further encourage the arrest, prosecution, penalizing and possible deportation (when it applies) of anyone not complying with our laws, currently or ESPECIALLY after there is any kind of reform.
While we wait, lobby and maintain local order, we should expect and demand complete compliance with our current laws and ordinances, including but not limited to those that relate to housing, public safety, education and public nuissances. Are we asking for any more than is expected of citizens and permanent residents living here? READ MY LIPS: no one lives in my basement or my attic. And, the day I can no longer meet my mortgage payments (aka: rent), I will move to a place I can afford to live without having to violate someone else's ordinances. And, no town should have to welcome and tolerate those absentee landlords supplying cheaper housing by allowing tenants to live cheaply by circumventing the rules that the rest of us have to follow. Acceptance of everything in life should never have to be unconditional.
With the community meeting us halfway, we should entertain some of the needs of the illegal immigrants while they await a federal determination on their ultimate immigration status. Our half of the "bridge."
If the advocates won't or can't deliver community accommodation, they are simply fools and sitting ducks to be rolled over by every fair minded citizen. They sometimes argue - why they are expected to gain compliance? We can argue back - they don't have to! But, public opinion can sour against them, even more, and that will eventually influence what happens in Washington and Trenton. If it is not their role to help assimmilate the people, then it must be uniquely their role to create chaos and further division.
I am not only hoping Mr. Reyes "does good," I'm expecting him to work hard at it.
As you can see, my response is more of an open piece to others as I doubt I could ever say anything that could be respected by a "someone," who is only interested in his partisan agenda.

Thanks Rich for making a great point! Apathy is gone, starting with me...
This Miller guy shows up and throws his hat in the ring. He is also an active guy, working on school issues apparently and showing up to Council meetings with the same folks that have been going their since I was knee-high to a grass-hopper.
He is running an uphill campaign in an all dem town. He is sticking his neck out -- whether one supports him or not -- when 11000 other people would not.

Got to give the man credit for that as well. But Mr. Kelsey - enough with the underdog stuff. An all Dem town? The independents outnumber the Dems and the GOP registered voters combined. In the primary, the votes per man, Ligouri, Sims & Kane were almost the same. And the big one...many African-American families, who almost always vote Democratic (and rightfully so), have been displaced by the illegal alien population. Things look pretty even to me. If it was such a slam-dunk, I would have saved my hand grenades. Geo -- please call me Rich. I am forced to agree that the numbers show a significant shift in the african American population. Of course, that population is still significant int he town, and as we know -- it votes 90% party line. Second, I think you over-state the independent effect. Independents have always drastically out-numbered Republicans and Democrats. It used to be that Democrats out-number Republicans 2-1, and Independents outnumber Democrats, 2-1. We can recount the history of every election if you want -- but only a handful of Republicans have won running as republicans in over 26 years. Two that did, switched parties. Two won the year after the last re-valuation when tax rates were not significantly lowered, and massive tax increases rode them in -- only to lose later. The independents in town have a rich history of leaning democrat -- you will have to agree. Finally -- any person runnign 1 versus three is an underdog. (irrespective of party.) Why, because each candidate brings their own cadre of personal supporters, and each also works to drive up support for their person. This has effect of positive spill-over for an entire ticket.

OK - I will call you Rich. The charge that I find total nonesense...is that Mayor Wilson is somehow cozying up to the illegal alien advocates. Almost every day I see posts on this web site about how he is giving in to the demands of those folks. He is not. If true, it would work against him 2 ways: 1. It gives the GOP a big campaign issue. That doesn't mean that the local GOP can't manufacture the issue - which they did. 2. The African-American families, who overwhelmingly vote Democratic, have been displaced by people who don't vote at all. I don't know the last time you went down Center Street - but it is completely changed. Let's assume the Mayor knows a thing or two about politics. Can't imagine him doing this on purpose or by accident. Well -- I agree. It would be giving a very big issue over to people who thought he had found the light. (Remember, he helped set up the muster zone -- a fact often forgotten.) So -- if he was doing that -- it would be important to know. For example, if his appointee -- Marc LeVine -- had his job saved through a deal that included certain concessions --such as appointing a new CASA day laborer, that would be important -- Right? Since Marc's misfortune last spring -- when the illegals descended on the town after his comments on this site -- I think major concessions have been made. This issue of his appointment of the new committee member raises serious questions. The silence and attacks only add to the speculation. If he has appointed, knowingly, an illegal alien, do you think that is legitimate news -- and should people know it?
