"Every nation has the government it deserves." Joseph de Maistre
and the same holds that people get the elected officials it deserves.

Sibyl:
Not sure how you want others to interpret your quote, but we all hope you plan on hanging around here, post election time, to help keep things lively on the board.
You have made some good points from time to time. Please take some time to realize that we are all on the same side for a better Freehold Borough. Or, we should be.
Let's work together and solve our problems, together. We all learn as we go along. We grow and get a little better with every new situation we face. Consider it a blend of experience...action... and resolve. Being positive and optimistic about the future is very important, too. Let's all seek to aid - first - before we take the easy way out and condemn. I find that most people have good intensions and are just looking for some support from others.
Thanks!!!
Marc

I left it open-ended to stir some debate - not to offend you. The questions can go even deeper to the type of government that has evolved.
Are we happy with Menendez? Are we happy with Chris Smith?
Just so things don't get personal, let's leave out the local borough politicians.

Leave out no one. Criticism without malice is fine. It goes with the territory. How else do we learn what concerns people and how upset they may be. Some say that you and I know each other. If that's the case, you know that I care what other people think. I can't satisfy everyone all the time, but I ALWAYS do what I think is right. I like to sleep well at night.
Bob Menendez might be a very nice guy and he is nobody's fool, but we may question his ethics and can definitely disagree with some of his platforms. Kean squandered his father's "capital" an didn't take the high road during the campaign, so I voted for Darryl Brooks...yeah - that was me probably casting the lone vote on that one
Chris Smith once let me/us down regarding our illegal immigration situation in town. However, I do respect his overall contributions on many issues during his many years of service. I met his opposition and was not impressed. I am also reminded that she came to town during the muster zone closing controversy and did not support the town.
I think Barbara McMorrow is a great choice and I don't envy her being up there by herself.
Good post and great challenge Sibyl. We just need to get more lurkers posting here.

Tax the rich and reward cowardice and sloth. This is why I hide.
Dishonest campaigns and bias media have lead the wayward flock away from that which makes them great. Individuality, spirit, patriotism and above all a sense of accomplishment.
Just sit back and wait to be saved! That is why we have what we do.

"Every nation has the government it deserves." Joseph de Maistre and the same holds that people get the elected officials it deserves. The answer is because people ask the wrong questions of their government. Brian, the administrator of this board, claims to have libertarian views, he is a fake. The question you all need to start with is "What can the government do that the private sector business and charity can not?" Give this some real thought and you will have a very short list. No knock ordinance? Get a German Shepard. Trans Fat? Get off your lazy butt, work out, and eat god food. You are all old enough to know better. Apply that question to the various levels of government. Who should decide if religious displays are in the town square? Washington, the ACLU, or the locals? Who should protect the borders, the Feds, the ACLU, or the Locals? Who protects us from ourselves? You all ask the wrong questions and look at the wrong end of problems when it comes to health-care, social security, welfare, affirmative action, abortion, guns and any other social issue. Start thinking because we do have the government that we deserve
