Im not sure if school safety is an issue for the BOE but if it is, what is happening to assure our schools are safe from any type of people with bad intentions. With the rising risk of terrorist attacks on places like malls, hospitals or schools etc, what is being done to make sure our schools are safe? Our childrens safety as well as education is so very important. It saddens me to hear stories of parents fighting in the parking lot infront of children over parking spots etc. I have even heard of a parent actually breaking there window in a fight over a mis-parked car, are our schools safe from all this? Are our children being protected from all threats in school from drug dealers, to craziness in the parking lots, to random acts of terror(on any level)? It sounds like a huge job? Is this the BOE responsibility?

Gov. Christie’s office has already taken immediate action on the unfunded mandates issue, when, over a month ago…, he signed an executive order to hault ALL unfunded mandates…, “Executive Order No. 4 prohibits a state agency from recommending, proposing, publishing or submitting any regulation containing an unfunded mandate, as defined under New Jersey law (N.J. Stat. 52:13H-2), unless expressly authorized in writing by the Governor or the Lieutenant Governor.”
Further, there is a bi-partisan “Red Tape” review panel holding public hearings that will as well, seeks public testimony, and clearly unfunded mandates is a hot topic of discussion too! – “Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Chair of the Red Tape Review Group, today issued the following statement after the first public meeting of the bipartisan Red Tape Review, where public input and testimony was received on the topic of Reforming the Administrative Rulemaking Process in New Jersey:”

www.state.nj.us/governor/news/news/552010/approved/20100309b.html Mar. 9, 2010 - Statement from Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno Following Second Meeting of Bipartisan Red Tape Review For Immediate Release: Contact: Michael Drewniak 609-777-2600
Trenton, NJ - Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Chair of the Red Tape Review Group, today issued the following statement after the second public meeting of the bipartisan Red Tape Review, where public input and testimony was received on the topic of Eliminating Unfunded Local Mandates:
"Today's meeting was another open, thoughtful exchange of ideas between the public and our review group. By reviewing, and ultimately eliminating, unfunded mandates on local government, we can help rein in the costs that continue to drive higher property taxes on New Jerseyans. As the group continues working in a bipartisan fashion to craft common sense reforms to streamline government and improve New Jersey's business climate, I am encouraged by the positive response we've received from the public and various stakeholders in the process. I look forward to our remaining work and recommending strong, meaningful reform at the end of this process for the Governor and legislature to act on.

Greetings, Fiber!
I am unashamed to admit I can be a true doofus, but I am trying to figure out what that means, above, with L.G. Guadagno, and the school system. Can you take a moment out to spell out how it may apply here?

..has the BOE identified mandates that hurt our schools and sought change from Trenton?
I have no idea what that answer is, but I have often heard that unfunded mandates are a big problem. .... previous posts are in response to Brains question.... looks like our new Administration in Trenton are already looking into resolving the question of Mandates that Brian brings up..., (I am looking into getting a transcript of the testimony from March 10th
After speaking with Trenton about the March 10th meeting this morning, I will clarify that this statment... "ultimately eliminating, unfunded mandates on local government," ... "local government" includes BoE's . The testimony presented on unfunded mandates was not limited to Local Municipal.., it also encompassed County and BoE's....)

Fiber,
that is some good reading and a nice follow up. Really, your posts deserved their own thread.
