Freehold High School Ranks Among the Best
For the second year in a row, Freehold High School has been named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best high schools in the nation.
After evaluating over 21,000 public high schools in 48 states, the company awarded Freehold High School with a silver ranking. Freehold High School is the only comprehensive high school to receive recognition in Monmouth County.
According to the U.S. News & World Report article, evaluation criteria was based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all its students well, not just those who are bound for college, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show that the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.
The top 100 high schools nationwide with the highest scores were awarded gold medals. The next 504 top-performing high schools nationwide based on their college readiness index scores earned silver medals. An additional 1,321 high schools were awarded bronze medals.
In New Jersey, two schools ranked in the top 100 (Dr. Ronald McNair Academy High School in Jersey City and Monmouth County’s Vocational High Tech High School in Lincroft). Eighteen New Jersey public high schools were cited in the top 500 (three in Monmouth County: Freehold HS, the Marine Academy Science and Technology and the Academy Allied Health and Science); while 21 public high schools earned a bronze medal.
Upon hearing the news, a happy Principal Linda Jewell noted that this is an outstanding honor for a traditional, comprehensive public school with an open enrollment. “This is a true measurement and tribute to the teachers and students of Freehold High School and the hard work they all do,” said Jewell.
